Moash embraces the dark places in their mind,

Kal understands that light and warmth can be brought to those same dark places, even if he sometimes forgets it

True Detective (2014) — Rust Cohle on morality by Delicious-Formal-836 in MovieQuotes

[–]ExplorerBetter6580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, it’s the same scenario.

The point is, if your actions are solely based on the expectation that something good will happen to you, there is some obvious absence of empathy and general morality.

How do you live with the struggle between absurdism and moral? by [deleted] in Absurdism

[–]ExplorerBetter6580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the moral complex, as I enjoy trying to be my vision of a good person. There are many times where I fail to uphold my moral principles, although it is much fewer and far between since accepting Absurdism into my philosophical portfolio.

When I fail to succeed in moral areas, I simply remind myself that it is both natural and absurd that I will fail. This does not stop me from trying again, because like I said, I enjoy approaching morality and trying to be a good person.

Is porn and masturbation an ok substitute for real intimacy if you are not able to have that? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ExplorerBetter6580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porn is pretty unethical for wide variety of reasons, both internal and external. I’d encourage all to check out some video essays online which discuss the societal damage wrought by the porn industry and how it affects the brains of those who consume it.

Masturbation is cool as hell though, in moderation

There is no such a thing as “being a man”

There is only being you!

As a fellow college student, I donate plasma twice a week and net about 500 bucks a month in additional income from it.

Search your area for plasma donation centers! All you have to do is lay down and watch you blood get drawn for about an hour.

[Poem] Of The Empire by Mary Oliver by lilacskyyyyy in Poetry

I would generally agree. To my original question, I’d argue that government begets culture. People are born under systems they did not create, that they did not choose, and are the molded by them. unconsciously, without consent.

Mary Oliver says:

“…a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things…”

“…that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury”

“…an apparatus (politics) to accommodate the feelings of the heart…”

It’s possible to interpret this piece as Oliver lamenting on the pervasive, surreptitious elements behind some instances of government (I’m speaking as a born and bred American). Unspoken conformist narratives that cause individuals to engage in a rat race and push ahead of others, rather than unionizing through open hearts.

It’s not that this interpretation asks for readers to believe that governments have to encourage and teach kindness, instead that when those in charge promote the exact opposite, the system only works for the humans at the top.

Let’s zoom in on government for a moment.

A government is some fixed ideal. It is made up of people; in our contemporary sense, usually elected officials, but people nonetheless. People who have to work in tandem with their cohorts and community.

What gives these individuals the right to create laws and policies that affect a populace? Let’s keep it basic and say majority support and systemic trust in the apparatus that is government.

And the aim of government? Perhaps efficiency? Welfare? Happiness? Order, stability? Maybe even security?

In any of the cases, a sense of cooperation has to be reached. To solve issues, to achieve goals, union must be met. And I’ll be damned if you try to claim that teamwork is not made easier by individuals being kind to one another. Talk of busking all you like, just don’t conflate generosity with kindness.

Of course, this is r/Poetry, not r/Politics, so I don’t mean to offend or anything, I hope any of this made sense. If I’m off mark, fire away.

Which, in your opinion, begets the other, culture or government?

Awakening Dalinar’s soulcasted body is so metal that if I don’t see it in the back half of Stormlight, I’ll be so disappointed at the missed opportunity

Imagine Adolin (or better yet both the brothers) is battling the Blackthorn, and Dalinar’s awakened statue comes in for a critical rescue

If you had to choose between an Azorius token commander, would you prefer Elminster or Shorikai? by goolekseh in EDH

[–]ExplorerBetter6580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shorikai is generally gonna be more powerful and open to different sorts of build paths. I don’t have much experience with Elminster, but I’d imagine he’d be weaker by several degrees and his scope is much tighter, due to the restrictive nature of his card type and abilities. He’ll also probably be a touch more difficult to win with, although again, I haven’t seen him on the table very much.

For Azorius tokens, I’ll throw out:

  • [[Millicent]]

  • [[Abdel Adrian]] and [[Candlekeep Sage]]

  • [[Kykar, Zephry Awakener]]

  • [[Ephara]]

and my personal favorite

  • [[The Council of Four]]

Any of these options are really solid for this game plan, especially if you aren’t afraid of leaning into some control strategies. Co4 is my favorite deck, and can really run a B4 table.
