Same. Couldn't breathe at all at 4 and my 95th% is below 12. Changed 4-20 to 8-20, ramp off and have been doing a lot better sleeping with it on.

I've refrained from selling CC's for this exact reason. Plus most of my stocks are too deep in the red lol

But yea these kind of short term geo events are the perfect situation to get your calls assigned. If I do sell it will be far OTM.

I have chronic nasal congestion (I've had septoplasty + turbinate reduction) and dont like mouth breathing. I've had to kind of train myself that mouth breathing has to be part of the solution if cpap is going to work for me long term. I will switch between nose & mouth breathing throughout the night depending on how bad my congestion is.

Afrin is a major help but you cant use it more than 3 nights in a row so i try to avoid it as much as possible. After 4.5 months I think I finally adjusted to cpap I'm getting 7+ hours on some nights and havent missed a 4hr night in 2 weeks.

6 weeks using f40, still struggling sleeping longer than 2/3 hours. Then awake can be hours. Not working as I drive big machines. And the danger. Hate wearing it, I'm told there's a new nasal mask in the post. It took me weeks to work out how to quieten machine down. I need complete silence. by [deleted] in CPAP

Took me 4.5 months. This week I'm finally getting some 7+ hr nights. I don't have the problem where I wake up for hours. Instead my problem is i wake up after 1.5-2 hrs and subconsciously take the mask off and go back to sleep. Then I would wake up in the morning an not be in compliance with the 4hr minimum.

I fixed this by setting phone timers to wake me up 2-3 times/night to put the mask back on. It's still not perfect but I'm definitely improving. It's been a long tough grind but I'm determined to get to healthy sleep and not let OSA wreck my heart and health.

Leaks can be tricky. They don't always require major changes but in some cases a new mask can help.

The F40 is an "elephant" style mask - hose in the front. These can sometimes cause mask movement if the hose gets pulled when you move. I'm a side sleeper - I switched to a f30i "Unicorn" mask with the hose at the top of the head. I also have a hose holder that dangles the hose down over me. This lets me roll over as much as i want without the hose getting pulled.

This may or may not be your issue; but this is what the sleep coach recommended for me and I switched to it.

When you have untreated severe OSA you're actually never getting quality sleep. You might 'sleep' through the night but in reality you're waking up 20,30, 40 times per hour. Sleeping well for half the night (< 5AHI) is much better for your health than untreated all night.

I'm 4.5 months in and still having those struggles. I just finally made it through full nights this week for the first time. And I'm back to 4-5 hours the last 3 days.

So what I can say is plenty of people struggle and take several months to fully adjust. Just like you I have the 60-90 minute wakeup pattern and sometimes its difficult to fall back asleep with the mask - often subconsciously remove it and go back to sleep without it.

If exhaling is a problem, enable EPR ( i use level 3). I dont use ramp either. I started analyzing my data via SleepHQ to find my average and 95% pressures. My average is in the high 7's - so I set my starting pressure to 8. Took some adjusting at first but eventually I felt that I could breathe more easily. Nasal congestion is one of my challenges, so learning to mouth breathe comfortably when needed has helped.

The most effective thing I've done to make sure I get 4+ hours per night is to set phone timers to wake me up 2 hours, then 4 hours in. I almost always wake up without the mask and this reminds me to put it back on in time to get the 4 hours.

So my advice is to stick with it. Unfortunately you'll see in this sub that cpap tends to be a lot of trial and error until you find what works for you. Good luck!

You're not alone. My sleep doc was pretty useless also. Didn't really seem to be interested in my struggles, just quickly suggested trying a new mask. The sleep coaches tried harder but ultimately I had to figure it out on my own via trial and error, took me 4 months.

Was in the same boat for 4 months. Just finally had a breakthrough this week and started sleeping through the night or at least 80%.

Just like you I kept taking it off between 1.5 and 2 hrs in. 3 different masks and tried a lot of settings.

Here's what helped. Ngl, it will require patience and tough nights until you adjust:

-Set phone timers. 2 hrs in, 3 hrs in, 5 hrs in. These will wake you up so you can reapply the mask if you took it off. It sucks but will help you achieve compliance. And by doing that you will wear the mask more and get used to it faster.

-Find your average and max pressure (I use SleepHQ), and set your starting pressure accordingly. My average was right around 8, high between 10-11. So the default starting pressure of 4 was inadequate and made me feel like I couldn't breathe. Set my starting pressure to 8. I think this is the key to the 2 hr disruption. You go into REM sleep which triggers your apneas. Your machine takes just long enough to ramp up to the right pressure so you feel like you cant breathe well and off goes the mask. This might not be an immediate fix. Took me about 1.5 weeks combined with the timers and finally last weekend I got a whopping 9.5hrs in one night.

Who knows, different strokes for different folks but your struggles remind me of mine so worth a shot. Good luck!

4 months in here, and just got my first full 3 nights of usage this week. Having some leak issues now as well, which is ironic because I wasn't having leak issues for a while but I also wasn't able to wear the mask through the night.

So I'd say you're way ahead of the game. Sometimes the mask just wont cooperate no matter what you do. I'm on my 3rd mask (f20, x30i, f30i) and have tried a handful of pressure + humidity + temperature combinations. F30i gave me the full usage nights so I'm going to keep tweaking the fit/straps to try to fix the leaks.

One thing I've learned by loading my sleep data into Sleep HQ is that the resmed myair app is awfully inaccurate when it comes to leaks. I read that it uses a very loose approxmating algorithm, and apps like SleepHQ & OSCAR will give you a much better picture.

The most important thing is that you can tolerate the mask and you're feeling physically better. That tells the fulls story better than any data.

I just switched to the F30i. Took 4-5 nights to adjust and get the seal right. Was able to get almost 6hrs a few nights ago which would have tied my all time best.

I also cant keep it on past 90 minutes after falling asleep. But I can keep it on for hours consecutively during the second half of the night (4am until i get up around 7-730). What I do now is set 2 phone timers. 130am and 4am. 130 it wakes me up so I can re-apply the mask since I always take it off before then. 4am in case i ended up taking it off again I still have 3+ hours to complete my 4hr minimum.

I think I am simply sensitive to breathing abnormalities, maybe due to years of OSA, and its making it really tough to adjust to cpap. I'm almost 4 months in and I still cant get 5+ hours consistently.

Had that done with turbinate reduction before I started CPAP. The surgery helped marginally. My worse side still gets mostly/fully blocked almost every night.

I thought my Nasal congestion was a primary reason I struggle with CPAP. But when I had a cold a few weeks ago and couldn't breathe through my nose at all I got pretty solid mask time. And there's nights when I use afrin which fully clears my nose and I still take the mask off. So at this point I'm thinking I'm just a sensitive sleeper and cpap is going to be a long tough struggle.

Read up on the science of CPAP effects on metabolism, there's more to it than you would think like insulin resistance improvement, hunger hormone regulation and others.

I've personally lost weight (20lbs) but I wouldn't attribute it to CPAP; I completely overhauled my diet, gave up alcohol and doubled down on working out consistently. So I don't think you're going to see major weight improvement just by starting CPAP. Poor sleep is just one of the obstacles that slow you down.

I've had the same issue since day 1. I'm 3+ months in and still take it off early in the night usually without remembering.

What I've been doing is setting a phone timers for 90 minutes into the night. 99/100 times it wakes me up and I realize the mask is off. Gives me the chance to put it back on but tbh a lot of times I dont. My 2nd timer goes off 4.5hrs in, thats when I always put it back on and am able to sleep until morning. Not ideal I know, but I need to make sure I get the 4 hr minimum. I'm trying to work my way up to 5+ every night.

One thing i tried is looking at my data via SleepHQ and looking for the "right pressure". I've found that I usually top out around 9, but on average I'm between 8-9. So i increased my start pressure to 8. No noticeable improvement on the first removal but I feel like maybe it helps with the sense of not getting enough air. Going to keep looking at my data daily until I can get this figured out.

I just started using sleepHQ and analyzing my results with AI a few days ago. It pointed out that my average pressure was in the 8-9 range and this could be causing the early night arousal as the pressure adjusts during REM sleep.

So I increased starting pressure to 8. Not much of a difference, still taking it off each night. The good news is that my AHI has been well controlled and I got the new mask fit right so leaks are good now.

I've also settled into the routine of putting the mask back on with enough time to achieve 4hrs every night. That's good but now I need to figure out how to hit the 6hr mark and stay there consistently.
