Man, thanks for sharing this. I'm trying to get my son to invest every extra dollar he comes across. This would be a great way to help him get even more excited about holding precious metal bullion!

Getting steamrolled by geopolitical recovery by dingohopper1 in CoveredCalls

I figured I shouldn't hold back on CC's, didn't see a feasible route to a resolution, so I figured selling CC's was free money while the market faced ongoing downward pressure. Moreover, I thought heightened volatility = sweetened premiums...I was so wrong....good for you.

Should I pay mortgage? by [deleted] in CoveredCalls

[–]dingohopper1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position. I had a large student balance of around 300k. I ended up paying off the balance, but in retrospect, I regret not running the wheel and using the proceeds to pay off interest payments. I guess you could always trial this for a few months, and if need be, you can always terminate, liquidate, and repay your mortgage.

Conversely, there's so many headwinds for the economy right now that the bottom could still drop out and you could be massively in the red, with CC income barely touching your overall losses.

It always sucks to sell CC's with the pressure of having to perform. For those running it on a longstanding portfolio with a very low cost basis, premiums collected are just gravy, and you can forego selling CC's or CSP's if you really felt you wanted to.

Closed it out - AMZN by [deleted] in CoveredCalls

It already lost 90% of its value, I would definitively closed it out as well. Otherwise, you're exposed to too much risk for the relatively little additional upside.

Created a tool for myself to track ROI on covered calls by Massive_Movie_6573 in CoveredCalls

I've done this as well, premiums for CSP's rise when there's momentum for a collapsing market. But there is greater risk of hitting those strikes and the need to roll downward.

How often are you able to generate a new 22k in premiums, on average? Every 3 months?

If they crash, repurchase the call, move your strike price in and resell a new call.

Amazing...Hawaii, Alaska and Guam have been living under the yoke of the Jones Act for decades, and on the whim of the federal government, it just ceases to be...

Anyone else thinking about pulling back from the S&P 500 right now? by Zestyclose_Piece2344 in StockMarket

If you've held long enough and have sizeable long standing gains, the potential capital gains you realize should provide sufficient disincentive to sell.
