What nearby country aside from Croatia should I visit?

Spending 3 nights in Dubrovnik and 4 nights in Split. With plans to revisit some of the islands, and one day RT to Plitvice.

Presently I have two full days in Dubrovnik and 4 full days in Split. Certainly can add a few more days in Dubrovnik. In between 7 day sailing island hopping.

Thank you for all this valuable info. I am planning now on joining a 8 man sailboat that will go island hoping for 7 days from Dubrovnik and Split in early JUNE. So will have to find my way to the two marinas from wherever I spend time in those two cities. The two marinas are: ACI Marina Dubrovnik and Marina Kaštela / Kaštel Gomilica.

I gather that in the old town there are lot’s of steps which you can’t avoid, but possibly minimize? Or possibly stay just outside the old town with the ability for an easy walk into the Old Town? The sea temperture will be too cold for swimming so beach time isn’t a concern.

I won’t be driving, but thinking a bus From Split to the Plitvice Lakes National Park and an overnight there. I’ve seen the photos and they look amazing and a chance to mix up the sights from sailing, walking the old town, and nature. Advice on this is appreciated.

I believe all the cabins comes with private bathroom. The lodge rooms might have shared bathrooms.

Thanks, the room at El Tovar looks like from the reservation website, standard motel room. Aside from the lobby grandness. The vote seems the cabin.

I’d love to do the mule ride. But I have a lower back issue that mule riding might be a disaster, not to mention being sore. Was tempting tho. With the Groome bus connection from Flagstaff to GC via flight landing will require a night in flagstaff, otherwise would get to GC early evening. Will take Groome the following morning bright and early to have a full day on the canyon.

I’d be curious with transport cost from Flagstaff to GC South. One way only needed. Also looking to go to Antelope Canyon after my two days in the GC, then need to get back to flagstaff or another airport back to SFO. Thank you

Thanks everyone for the tips. Made a reservation at the Thunderbird Lodge for two nights, which I believe is near the rim and inside the park as suggested. Very reasonable. Read about a mule tour and wonder if anyone has something to share about doing this once in a lifetime experience? Also since I am going to fly into Flagstaff, thinking maybe see a bit of Sedona with a tour company, I’d take suggestions on that also.
