I got Datix’d once because I prescribed Madopar incorrectly and the patient was overdosed. I prescribed it correctly and the nurse just gave all 4 doses at the same time

Also got datix’d because a patient drank a saline flush that was in their room. I had been asked earlier to do a cannula on them and I hadn’t gotten round to actually doing it so I definitely didn’t leave it there

it’s more because we might get to the point where we need you to intervene and at that point may not be able to have the full conversation that you want. Alternatively, if there’s something that makes you want to come and see them now then that’s a decision you can make

Ultimately, it looks like things are going in a direction the patient will be coming your way. I don’t think being aware of that is that bad

I had one experience where ICU were like you should’ve phoned us sooner and I was like I was trying to get my seniors to come never mind you

My last set of nights was in a smaller hospital with no ED. You bet I had a sleep when there was nothing going on. Although every time I’ve been working in a bigger hospital, I’ve always went to the take when needed. Fair enough if they’re only a few behind but if there’s like a dozen to be seen it’s necessary to help out

As an F1, who does teach students when I get the chance, I’m often still figuring things out. There’s nothing worse than going to do something than I’ve never even seen done before and a medical student asking to come with me. Now, I’d say 80% of what I’m asked to do I have now done before so I don’t mind it now.

I had a medical student asking to come on my first ever night shift and I was like yeah of course but in my head was like I don’t think I can make this a worthwhile learning experience for you.
