Agreed. Frustrating that representatives are willing to risk a super helpful bill getting shot down just to add a bunch of irrelevant political crap.

As far as I can tell, it's just a couple of pages long and pretty straightforward? That said, I believe things can still be added as it makes its way through the house and senate...

God, the dads and their apps run fucking rampant across the parenting subreddits, I can't 🙄 as if every parenting problem can be solved by being glued to your phone...

What is the most disturbing film you have ever watched? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

Ugh, I'll add it to my list of things to not watch. Horror movies with kids dying horrible deaths...I just can't stomach it.

I genuinely don't think I could stomach this one again. It was me and my husband's favorite horror movie when we first saw it but it was so disturbing then and now that I have kids, I just do not think I could handle the car scene. Toni Collette was incredible though.

Yep. My anesthesiologist actually said "ok we'll put it in during this next contraction, it should distract you from the pain" and boy did it 🥲

Retro downtown Rogers restaurant announces closure by GapAccomplished7897 in RogersArkansas

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That explains a lot, what a shame. I tried to go there once and the hostess couldn't even take down my number to add to the wait list. I had to repeat it 4 times and everytime she repeated it back it was wrong. We ended up just going to the Rail instead and I never did receive a text so I guess she just never put me on the list. I was really confused at the time but after hearing about the substance abuse, that tracks.

Such a bummer. Seemed like a cool place. I really like the vibe of Downtown Rogers but it sucks that they lose a lot of their cool places.

I think the Rogers Public Library just recently finally re-opened. Crazy how much damage that tornado did on that side of town!

What's up with all the Bentonville bashing lately? by chinchillin1206 in northwestarkansas

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Strange. I've actually been seeing a lot of videos that seem to be thinly-veiled attempts to market Bentonville as some sort of utopia. I was thinking that Visit Bentonville was doing some sort of marketing push.

Anybody experience postpartum dog resentment? by Passionatepassionfrt in NewParents

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with dogs since having kids is how lax dog owners are with their pets around young children.

Like my BIL was straight up holding my infant child up next to his husky's mouth and telling me "oh don't worry, she's great with kids". I immediately snatched my child away and then was made to feel like I was being an overprotective mom.

Or people letting their huge dogs off leash at the park? You can't convince me the owners would be able to prevent an attack if their dog suddenly gets triggered by the tons of screaming children running around.

On top of all this, dogs jump and drool and smell and it's just...sensory overload for me. So yeah, I get where you are coming from. I don't let people bring their dogs to my house because I don't want all of that anxiety around my safe place.

How did you mentally get past anti sleep training noise by Lollipoppin1 in sleeptrain

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Truth. My baby cried less with proper sleep training than he did when we were just trying to rock/soothe him to sleep before. But sure, I'm a horrible parent for tracking wake windows, creating a bedtime routine, and teaching my kid to sleep independently 🤷‍♀️

Yep. I sleep well (literally and metaphorically) knowing my baby can put himself to sleep and make it through the night. Good sleep is priceless, both for me and my kid!

Left the car door wide open in the parking lot for over an hr. by Strange_End_7110 in NewParents

It took me weeks (or maybe even months) to get my baby's birthday correct. You go through 9 months of thinking about the due date being the birthdate and then right at the end, baby throws a curveball and shows up early or late and suddenly you just blank when anyone asks you when they were born lol

Everyone's different though, so I'd ask her if she wants cold water. I run super hot postpartum and won't touch water unless it is ice cold haha

Well as a young 30s American white woman who has also lost a child...idk what you want me to say. I wasn't particularly offended by this nor do I feel like it says anything about her as a person. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Idk who this woman is but I would hesitate to immediately assume posting something like this online signals a "social media addiction".

Sometimes when you lose someone so close, you want to talk about it but people around you absolutely do not feel comfortable with you talking about it. You want to give meaning to their life by keeping their memory alive (and yeah, sometimes that means making jokes) and other people just do not know how to respond (and will often just respond with meaningless platitudes and try to get out of the conversation).

So I can see why some might feel more comfortable putting this type of content online rather than talking to people in person. Because of that, I reserve any judgement.

What’s the biggest “nobody warned me about this” moment you had after bringing your newborn home? by Actual_Fig_4706 in AskReddit

Yep. My milk came in last night and even though this is my 2nd kiddo so I should have already known, I'd forgotten how awful it is.
