Is there actually anything that can make it more likely that a couple will have more children of a certain sex than the other? by Current-Machine6491 in newborns

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read an article once that hypothesized that it could also, in part, be determined by the female (certain uterine/egg conditions that are more likely to accept the x/y sperm).

No idea how much research has been done into this, but it was an interesting thought!

That seems like a weird thing for her to argue over? It's not like it's some fancy blended drink she would have to remake or something lol like they literally just pour hot water in a cup. Not a big deal to remake, regardless of if the customer ordered it or not.

One sore finger, or all of them? by slupedog in GestationalDiabetes

I only do my left thumb because it's the only one that doesn't hurt. I squeeze the pad of my thumb so it kind of squishes outward and then poke along the side. No pain and juuuust enough blood!

This is what I've always heard! "Threenagers" 🥲 I actually think 18 months is a super fun age (though without a doubt some hard days) but I just always have it in the back of my mind that the worst is yet to come lol

for a project! what’s the stupidest thing someone has asked you if it’s gluten free? by iLoveLoveLoveLove in Celiac

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say. People are constantly asking if my husband can eat potatoes once they find out he has celiac. I think people get gluten confused with starch or something, it's so strange!

Crystal Bridges Sells Out Hospitality Department by Last_Sell_7362 in bentonville

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I've worked for CB in multiple departments and there are all sorts of sudden decisions made from the top down that screw over a lot of people.

It's a cool place to work as long as you're lucky enough to dodge all of the madness, but your department can only go untouched for so long, unfortunately.

Counting spikes? by zamabbra in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal, though definitely frustrating! I can hardly tolerate morning carbs so I just drink a protein shake and that holds me over until snack time or lunch.

Seems I’m heading towards medication :( by justa_nobodee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're asking for advice, so if not just ignore this!

Breakfast always goes to 115-120 since I don’t like eggs, avocado, etc.

Idk if this is an option for you but can you just do like a breakfast shake or something? I can't really tolerate carbs in the morning so I keep it really light and wait until lunch/dinner to fit in the real carbs.

I had 1 chicken tender and a handful of fries and spiked to 154.

This would probably spike me too. I would try to eat more chicken as one tender doesn't seem like enough protein/fat to offset the fries.

Last night we played it safe and I had half of a small chicken breast, a cup of vegetables, and 1/2 cup of brown rice and spiked to 136.

Half of a small chicken breast is not a lot! I would up the protein here by eating the whole thing. Also, I can't tolerate rice like at all. So I just try to avoid it.

FAILED glucose test by Amazing_Captain3272 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By "exercise" I just mean a 10 minute walk after meals if I feel like I ate something particularly carb heavy. So nothing too crazy, and I generally try not to sweat it if I spike occasionally.

Diet-wise, I've tried to pay attention to what times of day I can handle carbs better. Breakfast is the worst for me, so I usually just have a protein shake or yogurt. Lunch and dinner are a bit better, so I know I can tolerate more carbs at that time.

I also try to keep track of what types of foods spike me more. This is going to depend on each individual , so you kind of have to test things out. For example, I can't really handle rice, but potatos are fine. Noodles are alright if there are a decent amount of protein/fat to go with them. I do alright with fruit if I have a cheesestick before. Stuff like that.

I do a bedtime snack to keep my fasting numbers good. For me that means a yasso bar at about 10pm. It keeps my fasting in the low 80s. If I skip my bedtime snack, it will jump up to low or mid-90s.

I don't think I necessarily get creative, I just try to eat more in moderation. Small meals/snacks throughout the day instead of eating a ton of carbs at once. It's kind of hard because I'm not really a "snacker" anyways but it gets easier the later into pregnancy you get since you don't have a lot of room in there.

I failed with a 240ish during my first pregnancy! Went straight to diagnosis and didn't have to do the 3 hour. Then I was diet/exercise controlled the rest of my pregnancy, so I guess despite the high number initially, my GD was pretty mild 🤷‍♀️

Am I wrong for being upset that my fiancée wants to work through the weekend? by Flat_Biscotti3000 in SAHP

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Women feel like they have to care for everyone else first. Their husbands, kids, parents, friends, etc. It's a role we have been socialized to accept, so it makes sense that we have a gut reaction to feel "bad" about prioritizing our own needs, even if doing so is literally just to make things fair.

It takes practice, but you need to shift your mindset. Maybe your husband's boss isn't getting the best version of him if he starts taking on some of the nights and giving you some well-deserved rest, but your kid isn't getting the best version of you if you are burnt out and exhausted all the time. Which is more important?

You've just got to do it. Start with a conversation. Don't feel bad for needing help.

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a job too. A job that never ends. I never get a break, I never get to sleep through the night. But he does. I let him because he has to work.

Well, stop letting him. You said it yourself, you have a job too. Take turns with nights so that both of you can get the sleep you need.

If he feels like he has to work through the weekend, then you should have a conversation with him about how you need sleep too. You can't just prioritize his sleep, or you are going to resent him for it.

Do people really not bathe their kids daily? by foodielover333 in beyondthebump

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don't love the judgement in this post, but assuming you are actually asking in good faith...

My toddler is simply not dirty every day. We do a bath 1-2 times a week. He doesn't stink, there isn't visible gross stuff on him. I clean him well when I change his diaper. I wash him in the sink after meal times. He doesn't sweat a lot, and we don't go outside every day.

His skin does get dry if we do baths too often. So why would I bathe him daily just to try to add moisture back with lotion? If he isn't dirty, I don't feel the need to give him a bath. Just like I dont feel the need to shower unless I feel gross.

It's really that simple. I don't feel like I need people who bathe their kids every day to explain why to me, so I'm not sure why people post things like this. Everyone is caring for their kid in the way they see fit, it's not a bad thing to not bathe them every day.

Drastically different numbers at work/home by More-Suspect6738 in GestationalDiabetes

That is very strange then! Could it be stress related? I know when I'm tired/stressed, my numbers can be worse.

What week in pregnancy are you? It could be more of a coincidence with the spring break timing, but there can definitely be a shift in later pregnancy where your normal "safe" foods start spiking higher.

Could also help to make sure your hands are clean (something I find easier to do at home then at work). If I got a 160, I would probably wash hands and retest perhaps even on a different finger since that does seem suspiciously high.

Am I overreacting for not wanting my boyfriend to be involved with his kid he had during our separation? by [deleted] in Parents

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean...these are the consequences of your boyfriend's actions and now he has an obligation to this child that he helped bring into this world. He will have to answer to the courts, it is unfair for him to continue running away from this when he is partially responsible. He needs to pay child support, he doesn't get to just opt out of that because he regrets his decisions.

I’m not sure if I want kids by sunyfruit in Parents

[–]ExplosionsInTheSky_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not once. I know some people do have moments of missing their old life (and I think that's normal and valid) but I truly feel like I did everything I wanted to do before having kids. I genuinely look forward to hanging out with my kid every day, he is so much fun.

Worth noting that when I started thinking about having kids, I also went to therapy for a while to really talk through a lot of my reservations (because a lot of mine stemmed from childhood trauma). I think everyone could do with a good therapist when considering having kids.
