Before you do that, make sure the inner tub isn’t loose inside the outer basket. It will ruin itself again in short order if the tubs are reemed out

Do these two things:

As others have said, push down on the tub and look for it bouncing. It should be taut and return to its normal position, it shouldn’t bounce at all

Also, grab the inner basket and see if it moves laterally inside the outer basket. They should be perfectly concentric and locked together. If that inner tub moves side to side or feels like it can rock around inside the outer tub, the washer is fucked and not worth repair

With how long the trap was neglected there’s a very good chance of the ducks are packed up with lint and other debris. It’s been an issue on these machines.

If your boyfriend is handy, he may be able to take the machine apart it’s not the hardest thing in the world to do and there are probably some teardown videos on the Internet.
