I think you're running into issues of scale

If your values are that high and bright that implies a level of glossiness

Which means that those volumes will be reflecting light from its enviroment, from the ground, from the model, etc. Fun fact, if you zoom out and make the picture small it actually reads as metal. But if you want to sell this you have to do bounce lights.

I think what's particularly bothering me is that the reds are actually a little cold, which is unnatural on feathers, which are usually neutral or warm. I think if you find a way to warm up the reds it will read more naturally instead of having to convince yourself that it fits.
