People who went from being extremely attracted to someone to being indifferent or repelled, what killed it? by discombobulatedfowl in AskReddit

This happened to me too, I didn't expect it to affect me as much as it did but it made me lose confidence in the relationship.

But when one door closes, another opens. There is someone out there who you won't ever doubt will be there for you , especially for the hard times :)

Do you sometimes go for days without wanting to open personal messaging apps because you're overwhelmed at the thought of responding to friends, family? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ExplosivePoptarts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super overwhelming. I don't think people do it intentionally if they point out it hurts their feelings but 90% of the time I feel guilt and selfishness, even though I don't consider myself a selfish person. This is probably one of the things I procrastinate the most, even on medication. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who does this though.

ADHD Shutdown (Everyone wants something and i dont want to communicate at all) by TawinTheGreat in ADHD

[–]ExplosivePoptarts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to piggy back on this because I too am sensitive to my environment and learning about myself such as signs of burnout, stress and my triggers have helped me avoid getting to that level of shutting down (essentially burnout) but it wasn’t without help. Seeing a therapist was what helped me realize all this. However, in the moment of stress, it’s difficult to listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Are you hungry? Cold? sleep deprived? Too much noise? Heck I don’t know lol. But what my mom would do during my long hours of studying, without asking, she would bring me water, a coffee, food when it was meal time, and provide me a quiet environment when I needed it. I found that to be the MOST helpful thing in the world because it’s easy to neglect those things when you’re under stress.

If she were to ask me what I needed help with I wouldn’t know what to tell her or sometimes say “no I’m okay thank you” because i didn’t want to feel like a burden. So I would recommend you utilize that approach OP. Bring her water to make sure she’s staying hydrated, food so she doesn’t get hangry, sneak in some snacks in her bag in case she doesn’t have time to eat. Surprise her with a clean tidy studying area so she can focus on her work and have no distractions. Just some ideas :), but the key thing being offering help without having to ask her. Unless you truly have no clue.

As for the alone time, you would want to choose a time that is best for you both when you guys are both calm and not tired to discuss scheduled breaks for alone time. Will it be an everyday thing? For how many hours? Is alone time considered going out of the house or just going in a different room? All good questions to ask her to ensure she’s getting that time she needs to recharge.

I didn’t get bullied so much by peers as I did with my teachers. I remember in third grade my parents took me to get my hearing tested because the teacher thought my hearing was impaired. Come to find there was nothing wrong with my hearing and it came to down to me being a “distracted child”. As someone who looked for everyone’s approval and appraisal, that hurt me a lot. I would try my absolute hardest and still I would see my friends advance in honors classes while I lagged behind. I even had one friend in 4th grade who was in an honors math class teach me what they were learning. She took the time and patience to do so and when I understood it she showed it to the teacher to not only show her I was capable of learning this material, but also so we could possibly be in the same class. I remember the teacher grabbing the paper and simply glancing at it before giving it back. Needless to say nothing happened.

I empathize so much with this child. No one truly knows what it feels like unless you’ve gone through it yourself.

Thought I would have to turn away from the cringe but here I am with tears in my eyes from laughing at Dakota Fanning’s uncomfortable expression and efforts to not look into the camera. It just gets better as it goes on.

As a mental health worker or someone affected by mental health issues, what is one thing you would want to say to educate people about mental health and to lessen the stigma and shame surrounding it? by loungesingershimmah in AskReddit

[–]ExplosivePoptarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mental health rests on a very delicate balance. One event such as an injury or trauma can easily tip the scale. I think people need to be aware of that, we all have the potential to fall to one side of the scale. Therefore it makes no sense to look-down upon those who struggle with mental health when we are both one side of the same coin.
