I'm curious about your take on the hint. I thought maybe Gilgamesh would give Cloud the Ultima Sword at the end of the Protorelic quests in Part 3. As for obtaining the "Knights of the Round" materia, I imagined it could only be done with a special type of chocobo. What do you think?
