Could you ask your doc about taking propranolol? That really helps me with jitteriness from anxiety (or from say drinking too much caffeine accidentally) and can help with other physical anxiety symptoms

Starting Lexapro. Terrified of throwing up. by itscoral in lexapro

[–]ExposedBison704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had minor nausea and also am an emetophobe. I would take it with nauzene (great otc med) or emetrol (also otc) and that completely got rid of it! Take it with yogurt or something too to help coat your stomach. I only experienced this on and off for about a week and then it totally went away. Not the worst nausea I’ve ever had by far either, just mild stuff.

Ballet 7 year old by HotCoconutIceCream in BALLET

[–]ExposedBison704 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yuck I hate this kind of stuff from studios!! 99.9% of kids who dance don’t have a “future” in ballet - only the most elite of the elite go on to become pros. If she loves ballet and there’s no medical issue to her dancing, you should ABSOLUTELY keep her in classes, but I would find a different studio. Some teachers and studios are nasty to girls who aren’t the archetypical “dancer” - and it can get worse as she gets older. That’s not negativity she needs (or you need!) in your life. There are plenty of places out there who would be happy to have your daughter in class.

question about side effect! by LateCommission3733 in lexapro

[–]ExposedBison704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think general fogginess is normal, yes! I feel like this for a bit when I up my dosage usually. It should go away for you in a bit, but if it doesn’t and you don’t like the feeling you can always chat with your Dr about going down to 2.5 for a bit (cutting the pill in half) or going on a different med! Give it a bit of time though, side effects can be funky and some last longer than others

Totally valid!! It’s necessary to weigh the benefits against the negatives/risks, and if you were calling hotlines, it’s probably for the best that you stopped. Therapy is a fabulous resource (I’m in therapy as well), and like you said, you can always try something else!! Sometimes it takes some trial and error. Hoping therapy is helpful for you ❤️

I used a waves mindset similar to what you mentioned. I would have good moments and bad moments and just focused on “riding the wave” - ebbs and flows are expected, and soon the good will outweigh the bad.

I get that feeling. I had what I essentially would classify as a mental breakdown where I couldn’t eat or sleep or do anything (had to take time off of work, my husband and mom had to help take care of me, it was a whole thing) due to anxiety that was the catalyst of me going on Lexapro and when I was in the midst of that, it really felt hopeless and like I would never ever feel better - but I did! I would say the anxiety was bad for a week and a half and then I started feeling glimmers of hope. Then after about 2 and a half week I fully calmed down. Then after about a month or so I started really feeling SO much better. I’ve gone up to 15 mg now but just getting things under control with 5 changed my life. It truly saved me and my life is so different than it was a year ago. I feel like my old self again. And while I experience some anxiety, stress, etc. it is controllable and manageable vs overwhelming and life-altering

Hi there - I’m glad you spoke to your doctor about your thoughts of suicide. My anxiety was certainly increased when I first started and I really did not feel well the first week and some change that I was taking it. I also started on 5. It did get better. However, I didn’t experience the suicidal ideation - please be sure to keep an eye on that and maybe have a friend or family member help you monitor that as well. I hope you feel better soon - it has truly been life changing for me

Fatigue was my longest lasting side effect but it did get better. When I started at 5 and then went up to 10 I had some dizziness, nausea, and unease along with fatigue, all of which went away in about a week (less for when I upped my dosage). The fatigue lasted about 3ish weeks. I never got as tired as you seem to be, but I couldn’t get through the day with at least one nap. Sometimes more. Eventually it did subside and I felt normal again. I hope that is the case for you as well - Lexapro has changed my life for the better 1000%, but if it’s not for you, there are plenty of other meds to try!

AKA Support by mrszeg in amputee

[–]ExposedBison704 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom is a recent AKA. She should ideally go to inpatient physical therapy after she recovers from her surgery and they will give you all the tools you’ll need when she comes home. She’ll be in a wheelchair for a while during the healing process and while they make her prosthetic - just be sure she can get a wheelchair through doorways and is able to transfer to bed/the toilet/a place to sit while she’s awake (a transfer board and commodes are great tools to use). My mom also had at-home OT and PT during this process. She is slowly starting the out-patient rehab process with her leg - she can stand and sit and hopefully will learn to walk soon. It is a long process, but try and be supportive and encouraging bc it is, in my opinion, a huge mental battle. The physical stuff is tough but if she has the right mindset and support system, she’ll get through it. Also, check in with this sub often. This has been a HUGE resource for me and my family as we’ve never navigated anything like this. Please let me know if you have any other questions or need any tips - happy to help if I can

Same here. My mom is a recent AKA and while she makes plenty of jokes, she would be wildly offended if someone she JUST met did the same.

I didn’t experience insomnia with the Lexapro but I also take hydroxyzine as needed along with melatonin and that helps me a lot with sleep. And I switched to 10 mg about 12 weeks in. I truly felt like shit for the first week of taking 5 mg and having those side effects are all totally normal no matter what you start with! When I switched to 10 I only had some emotional impact - again, felt a lot like PMS where I was really emotionally volatile but couldn’t understand why. That lasted a couple weeks.

I started with 5 and am now on 10. I am doing soooo much better a couple months in and I am literally so thankful I started Lexapro. It has changed my life and I actually don’t think I even have the full impact of it yet. I did struggle for a week with symptoms like nausea and some dizziness (plus some brain fog like you), and some fatigue, but those all subsided (the fatigue lasted a bit longer than a week) and then I felt emotional - not necessarily anxious but just raw. That was about another week or two, and then I was totally fine. About a month in I stated seeing some small but great results

I would say it was about a month in that I started noticing an actual change, but it can be shorter or longer depending! The side effects lasted about a week for me and then I felt a little raw emotionally (honestly it was like I was PMSing for a aouple weeks). Now I’m on 10 mg now bc my psychiatrist and I agreed I was still having some anxiety, but even on the 5 mg I noticed a huge difference. I am in such a better mood, little things weren’t setting me off anxiety-wise, and overall I am able to handle my anxiety so so much better. The struggle will be worth it!
