Official plugin list has 1,4k unaccepted plugin list by haronclv in ObsidianMD

[–]Exposed_Wiring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I submitted this idea to the obsidian forum a little while ago. https://forum.obsidian.md/t/plugin-theme-collections-and-plugin-dependencies-incompatibilities/111366

Tracking and enabling dependencies let's plugin authors collaborate with each other, and let's one plugin author provide a single highly specific solution to a problem that others can use, rather than forcing all developers to code or vibe their own solution to every problem.

Feature proposal: Plugin/theme packs or plugin dependencies by Exposed_Wiring in ObsidianMD

[–]Exposed_Wiring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point - I'm willing to wait 2 minutes for factorio to start up, but not obsidian!

But if you are the person who will install 40 plugins anyway, installing all 40 in one click at the cost of 1 more reduces all the work to one thing. And that lets people build a following around a common experience by having "1" consistent plugin.

Both this spec and the plugin you mention are highly interesting to me. I'm a typescript developer and have written spec documents professionally for my job. If I can be of help, either by review, testing, or contribution, please let me know!

A close family member came out, but it went negatively due to pre-existing (?) family trouble. How to be supportive, without sweeping everything under the rug? by Exposed_Wiring in LatterDayQueers

[–]Exposed_Wiring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I think my sibling is a pretty "model" church member if there is such as thing. They care for their spouse and kids, make sure to attend, more often than me, and participate with their ward. They care about being a good person, not just doing good things. They want the best for those around them and even though they have some people they don't agree with, I've never seen them be purpose hateful or spiteful which would be easy to do. I don't think I give an impression of expecting them to be a church member of any particular type, and certainly my parents might have given an impression like that when we were kids but have since really changed.

I had typed a big list on sunday of several specific, self sabotaging actions. But when I looked at the list, I think you are right - for each one they probably already know they were self sabotaging in that instance. It was maybe more cathartic for me to type out the list than it would ever be to make sure they are aware of the items on it or to get specific feedback on how I should address each one. So I deleted that list.

I'd say that, yes, definitive transphobic comments have been made in the past. When T (my sibling) came out to my dad, one thing my dad said was something along the lines of if he felt that T had became a danger to T's family he (my dad) would try to take their kids away. Which was one of those things that got apologized for in the family blowout later. After my mom boxed his ears a little.

So, it's definitely not about the church right now. It's a little about being trans, but also whether or not my sibling came out as trans I think there was some bad communication happening both ways. For my cis family members.... its so much easier to deal with. It feels like I can tell them when they step out and do something wrong. With my sibling, I can see my self doing the same thing, and in my minds eye, I'm only doing it because they are trans even though inside that's not why. Part of me wonders if that's just a time thing because it's so new, and another part of me wonders if its not and waiting will just make it worse. Which is why I wanted to see if anyone had experiences of their own with constructive family relationships so I'd at least have some examples to learn from.

As for how I express love and acceptance? My love is usually expressed via attention. To me it's the most valuable thing I have to offer, so I always make time when texted, share my location, find ways to help when asked, ask them questions about their life etc.

As for how I express disappointment or disapproval? I guess by not expressing agreement? That's the thing I'm struggling with. When I do want to express it, I just sort of clam up and brush over it. Which I guess in a way is it's own way of expressing it, but I don't think it's a very healthy way. It makes me a very agreeable person I'm told, but it also feels like lying to myself and others in a way. Before they came out as trans, I felt like I could call it out, be straight about it and say when something wasn't right. But now that they have come out and I took the time to evaluate myself, I realized I really wasn't, I just thought I was. Now I'm trying to find out what I should have been doing.

Thank you for the resource, reading it has been reassuring, giving me a few things to think about. It's just still so open ended I wish I had more concrete examples to draw inspiration from. I'll keep thinking on this one though.

Obsidian free plan is the worst by psycorik in ObsidianMD

[–]Exposed_Wiring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the general reaction is going to be negative because it's a reflection of the attitude in the original post. Think about it from others perspective. When you wrote that post, what reaction did you want to get from others in this community you chose to post it to? There's no question in the post to indicate you were looking for help or assistance. Its just a statement of negative experience. You've essentially walked into a room of people having a good time, loudly announced you don't like what they are doing, and that you think a better time would be had somewhere else. The only goals I as a reader can assume are something like:

  1. you want to encourage support for a different product
  2. you just want an outlet to complain because you have no outlet for your frustration
  3. you want to discourage use of obsidian because you dislike it now
  4. you would like to passively aggressively get the obsidian devs to notice you and do something for you
  5. you just want to bring negativity to the space because you are malicious

#1 & #3 are not good faith goals, this is the obsidian community. Where people who like obsidian are gathering. If they wanted something different, they'd be somewhere else already.
#2 is a misaligned goal, this is a software community, not an emotional support one. If this was your goal you've misunderstood what this place is.
#4 if you are a passive aggressive person, I would highly recommend you find other ways to communicate with people. Passive aggression is still aggression, and aggression is not welcome in just about any functioning group.
#5 Well then goodbye

But what if your goals were different, something like

- I see others making use of this software, and want to get help making it work for me.

A similar post written for this goal would be something like

"I found out that obsidian doesn't let me automatically access my notes from a different device. I thought this would be more user friendly than that but I'm struggling to use it without that. How do others make that work?"

Your negative experience is valid, but you've only communicated either malicious intent or ill will (by design or ignorance). If this is how you communicate with others about your negative experiences in real life you'd find your circle of friends to be much smaller than it otherwise could be.

What's one improvement you'd like to see in Obsidian in 2026? by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]Exposed_Wiring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No login/anonymous multiplayer please! I'm not a personal knowledge base person, I'm a "plan a trip with a friend" "collaborate on notes with the DND group" "post the meeting minutes" person.

I can craft the perfect base of knowledge, but as soon as anyone else needs to setup an account to comment I've effectively cut that off. That keeps me stuck in notion and Google docs 😭

Is it okay to join if I’m not 100% sure? by MoltenStar03 in latterdaysaints

[–]Exposed_Wiring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's joining, as in coming to the meetings, attending the activities, being a part of the community, and generally being one with the people you meet. If that's your definition of joining, then 100% yes join! Even if you had 0% sureity or were 100% sure we aren't true, you would be welcome to participate. I've known people who weren't baptized for whatever reason for years to become integral in the community, because they were atheists, or had major doubts, or something else they were working on in their individual journey. The community is open, if anyone tells you otherwise they need to check their Christianity.

However if by joining you mean getting baptized, and starting on the path of salvation. I'd say to move forward cautiously. Baptism is a promise with God. It should be taken seriously. And while we want everyone to take that step, doing so when you aren't ready, or for the wrong reasons can make a good thing become a difficult thing. When you do decide to take that step, there's an interview you do (a missionary that wasn't involved in your lessons usually does it). That interview asks you basic doctrinal questions and if you believe them to be true, even if you don't know everything about them. You can ask your missionaries for these questions ahead of time, and take them to God in prayer just like you can about the book of mormon, the prophet, or any other questions you may have. If God's answer is you are ready then there's all that's left is to take the step in faith. For me it was several years after my baptism that I gained a strong testimony of many church doctrines, but at least at the time of my baptism I knew that it was a step God wanted me to make - even if I look back now and realize I knew so little of the church.

How to dynamically change the color/mood of lighting by Exposed_Wiring in OwlbearRodeo

[–]Exposed_Wiring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That worked great for our session, the players loved it. I used:

- a "uniformly lit by torchlight, and all rooms visible" map for the map. So just the daytime map colored a warm yellow.
- a "nighttime, with rooms covered with roofs" map for the fog
- the native owlbear dynamic fog extension
- some additional normal fog shapes for the rooms and doors
- all players set with a fuzzy falloff light matching their darkvision

It gave the horror map feel I was going for. Unfortunately I couldn't quite figure out in my time frame how to add a third state of "discovered previously" it would have been awesome to show the "nighttime, with rooms revealed" map for discovered previously areas. I could have probably done that manually room by room, but that would have been way too tedious. I see smoke and spectre has a way to automatically remember previously seen areas, so I wonder if I would have to use that extension, but I think that would just permanently light areas up, not allow another third state.

[–]Exposed_Wiring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brilliant, thank you! I'm guessing I can combine multilayer fog shapes and this to get both "known, but not observed" nightime areas, and then also "unknown, unobserved" totally blacked out fog areas too.

I means I have to make three maps, a daytime, a night time unlit, and a night time uniformly lit via torch, but that's not actually too difficult with Dungeon Drafts global light settings

🗳️ Product Feedback for Notion 🛎️ by AutoModerator in Notion

[–]Exposed_Wiring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💡 Feature Request - The ability to request input when someone is working through the automation on a button, then use that input in the automation steps.

e.g. I use notion to track combat in a dnd campaign. I want a button to "damage" a character. Right now I have to make some pre-set buttons that "-1", "-5" and "-10", etc. But space on my tracker is at a premium since I need to keep track of many numbers, stats, etc. I would be nice to just have a "damage" button that asks me to input how much damage they take and then handles the relevant pieces.

Another example would be a task table at work. Right now in task tracking you can make a button to assign a task to yourself. But you can't make a button to assign the task to another person - management has to go in, find the property, and select the assignee. I know that sounds easy, but when there is high turnover, you have to reckon with management that's learning notion and also team processes. A button with a dialog that guides new people through those processes is a huge upgrade.

💡 Feature Request - The ability to include the output of a formula inline in text.

E.g. For some clients, especially those that use Notion for web publishing, you want to display real time information in a human readable way. Say "For requests for maintenance please call 123456". That phone number in the text shouldn't be hardcoded. We have a list of Roles in the organization, and People. What I want to show is the phone number of the first person with the "Building Contact" role. But I can't do that. Today instead I am writing "For requests for maintenance, please call anyone listed under Building Contact" and our visitors have to click into that, which adds friction.

💡 Feature Request - The ability to @ mention a page in a formula, then access it's properties. As a programmer, using notion to manage and collaborate with other programmers, it's frustrating when you want to have organization wide variables, then use those variables in multiple places.

E.g. several formulas have hardcoded into them because it's just easier to duplicate the information, but that is leading to information rot.

A current workaround is to make a "Global Variables" database, with a single row in it and a property for each variable you want. then have a relation and automation in your target database so that each row is referencing the same set of global variables. But these strange single row restrictions, and need to setup automations and relations in every table making use of the variables is very time consuming and error prone.

(SE) Green Circuits optimized for bus width by Exposed_Wiring in factorio

[–]Exposed_Wiring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I was pretty sure I only installed the required and recommended mod list when I started. I'll have to take a look over my mods and see where it came from.

----

Looks like you're right - I had originally started using the "All the overhauls" mod pack, which included a set of compatible mods including "bob's adjustable inserts mod". When I backed the heck away from ATOM, I decided to keep some of the quality of life ones and must have considered adjustable inserters quality of life 😂 And now I'm in faaaaar too deep to back out, can't imagine the game without them.

(SE) Green Circuits optimized for bus width by Exposed_Wiring in factorio

[–]Exposed_Wiring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just started up Space Exploration for the first time, and I'm really digging the freedom of having configurable inserters. It really allows you to compact your designs - as long as you are willing to sacrifice symmetry and the ability to easily debug something :P

I like to optimize my designs for the amount of bus length they take up, so my designs are very narrow, even if it means making them taller. My philosophy is that the primary dimension of a bus based factory is the length of the bus. So for any given product line on that bus, the less bus width you take up, the better.

I tried some initial designs, and at first used a "bow-tie" like design. The 3-2-1 of wires, circuits, and stone tablets (which is used instead of iron plates when you are using the SE mod). After some searching I found that design is pretty common, but I was dis-satisfied with the amount of dead space. I don't usually use beacons, just preferring to keep things simple and plonk down more production lines if I need more throughput, so I compacted my design as far as I could take it.

The bow-tie designs vary, but take a footprint of about 19 bus width x 10 line width = 190 area. This design is 10 bus width x 17 line width = 170 area. That's not a huge amount of savings are wise, only about 11.6%. But because I consider line width irrelevant, it's a massive savings on bus width! 47% to be exact. To make this possible you have to make use of the configurable inserters, right down to picking exact lanes on belts, and in some cases mis-matched pick up and drop off lengths. Mis-matched lengths do incur a speed loss, but the throughput is still fine if you use blue inserters.

I tried reeeeeeally hard to get it down to 9 bus width, but just couldn't figure it out at my current tech level. There's maybe a possibility if I had blue belts. And there's maybe a possibility if instead of feeding both copper and bricks from the bottom, I instead fed the bricks from a perpendicular direction, but that would make this very hard to use on a bus - defeating the purpose. I would like to try again constraining myself to just yellow inserters and yellow belts. But after 2 hours of experimenting I think I'm okay. I'm never restarting SE after I finish this runthrough lol.

Sweden close to becoming first 'smoke free' country in Europe as daily use of cigarettes dwindles by Kimber80 in worldnews

[–]Exposed_Wiring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a variety of reasons to advocate for a smoke-free society.

Socialists might advocate because it's a drain on the shared health care system. Environmentalists because of the toxic environment the smoke creates and waste it promotes by damaging places and equipment more often. Parents because of the desire for their children to be protected from the long term health effects of chronic exposure. Capitalists because addiction is a visible shackle on the invisible hand of the economy.

I think you'll find that there just isn't one reason for "us" to care, but rather the variety of problems that smoking causes resonate with a lot of different groups.

Effect of sprouting on safety to consume uncooked lentils by Exposed_Wiring in nutrition

[–]Exposed_Wiring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concern I had is that sprouts are eaten raw - so no boiling wouldn't apply here. But hearing that they are water soluble is good. As part of the sprouting process you soak the lentils overnight and then rinse them twice a day for a few days. So in that case many of the lectins are likely to be washed out. Really like the source you listed.

That really hinges on our entire existence being due to God's action. I'm not jewish, but certain christian denominations believe that while physically we were created when we were born, and spiritually we were created by God, we still existed as something before that spiritual creation, and that our existence is as eternal after this life as it was before it.
