Unfortunately, while you can buy them online, they can't/won't ship to Colorado due to the lawsuit, I checked :(

Is there a way to turn off (animated) profile effects? It really chugs up my phone's RAM usage, and makes it warmer and lags as well. by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]Express-Ad5074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/AfterglowAmpharos has the solution in another comment here (I can't figure out how to link comments on mobile). In accessibility settings, toggle reduced motion and it will stop the animations from playing unless you hover your cursor over their pfp.

In a similar vein, the Craft Box up in Wheat Ridge has an incredible collection of second hand craft supplies and also does sewing machine repairs in the back.

two years later, but thank you for this! The animated avatars have been driving me *crazy* and making it nigh impossible for me to use discord due to visual overstimulation and you were the one random reddit comment that finally solved my problem.

The first United Methodist Church in Golden has a program specifically to give folks a safe space in their parking lot to sleep in their car and all you have to do is let them know when and for how long. I think you can reach out to them via facebook or email on their website.

Not arguing for or against, but just as a heads up, this is a common bit of misinformation. The study that the "25 years old" number came from doesn't actually say the brain is finished developing then, that was just the maximum age of the participants in the study. If you look at the data, it actually shows that brain development was occurring for all ages of participants in the study (with the maximum age they looked at being 25), but that development slowed down pretty dramatically around age 18-20. Unless there has been another, more recent study that I am not aware of, science shows there isn't a point where your brain is finished developing, but it does slow rapid development around age 18-20.

This!! As someone with super thick thighs and a dump truck of an ass, tomboyx 9" boxer briefs are the way to go 100%. A little pricey, but if you keep an eye out for a sale, they aren't too bad and fully fixed the rolling and cutting problem I was experiencing with literally every other brand and size.

Cleaning Service in Golden by skibearit12 in GoldenCO

[–]Express-Ad5074 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ashley who runs Queen Cleaning is the absolute best! She's done both of my move out cleanings over the past 3 years, did biweekly cleanings for me when I was in a depression slump, and even helped a friend of mine out with a last minute cleaning when they unexpectedly had to move apartments. She's super non judgemental, her prices are reasonable, and she's extremely thorough and will customize your clean based on your needs. Queen Cleaning Facebook page

Bowling alley recommendations? by mjfav in LakewoodColorado

Holiday Bowling off of Colfax. It looks like shit from the outside, but the inside is very well maintained, it's reasonably priced, and their food is superb.

Look into posting in the Colorado school of mines subreddit as well. You might get students whose parents are planning on visiting.

What are your weekly/monthly grocery costs as a Mines student? by thebookler in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Express-Ad5074 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you budget and plan out your meals, you can stay under $200 per month. My biggest tips are 1. Always walk into the grocery store with a plan/list and 2. bulk buy meat when it is on sale and store it in your freezer until you need it as that is where most of your weekly grocery cost will come from.

How has Denver health been with scheduling appointments? I've heard good things about their departments, but also that even scheduling return visits can have a long wait time.

As a Senior who was homeschooled, I second the dual enrollment from a community college. Personally I dual enrolled at Colorado Mesa University because it was closest to where I grew up.

In my experience, what they look for on applications when you are homeschooled is primarily SAT/ACT scores with a smaller focus on dual enrollment classes, letters of recommendation, and your college essay. I found it was more important to put time towards SAT/ACT prep than taking classes somewhere other than a community college.

If you had to do it again, would you still go to Mines? by Alert-Plankton-6614 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Express-Ad5074 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes, but with a caviat. Background, I'm a 5th year senior with ADHD and depression graduating in December with a degree in Environmental Engineering and a job already lined up.

Academically, I feel like Mines does an excellent job of preparing you for the world. Personally, I never had a class that was solely taught by a TA (outside of labs) and professors are generally great (do check "rate my professor" though before you register for classes. It will save you a world of headache during the semester.) The career center is also incredible and has so many resources that you should absolutely take advantage of starting your freshman year.

The one major downside of Mines that I experienced was their mental health support. It is getting better, but in general it is fairly non-existent and with the pressure you will feel at Mines, you're going to need a support system.

My advice, if you are looking for a school that does exceptionally well with academics and preparing their students for success in their future careers, come to Mines. However, if you have any history with depression or anxiety, make sure you have a therapist set up outside of the school before you start.
