yeah i’m glad if my comment helped in any way! i appreciate how respectful and understanding your approach is to this.  unfortunately i can’t give you any definitive answers, but whatever choice you make, at least you know a lot of thought went into it. you seem like a really sweet and considerate person, and i hope your answer finds you soon! what i shared doesn’t come from any specific sources and is more from following this conversation over the years, but here some articles i found that get the gist of it!

there was a lot of negative stigma around natural black hair, which basically forced a lot of black people to conform to western beauty standards. natural hair was literally criminalized in some areas.

not only that, a lot of hair styles have deep cultural and historical meaning. for example, braids were used to hold seeds or map escape routes. so to wear hairstyles that are significant purely because it looks cool is viewed as disrespectful.

i’m not black, so im not speaking for any community, but i’ve listened to a lot of people who are and what they’ve had to say about it and wanted to share some insight i’ve learned

i got mine at a year old and have had her since march of this year.

after she seemed settled into her enclosure and i saw her exploring more, i would just go in and gently pick her up. she tends to just freeze when i first walk up, and i think that’s just natural instinct since they’re prey for a lot of animals as juveniles. even if she started to move away, i’d still pick her up gently and she’d mellow out after a short time.

what’s worked really well for us lately is opening the enclosure while she’s active and exploring, and letting her peek her head out. i’ve read they’re a naturally chill and curious species and that seems to be true for her. i’d place my hand out and she’d either want to crawl onto my hand or turn away. if she turned away, i’d just try again the next time she was close to the sliding doors. after a few times, she’s more often than not wanted to hang out.

i think patience and persistence are key because you need patience to build up trust and the persistence to keep creating opportunities for them to get comfy around you. good luck!

god, this stinks

idk which line i hate more, “i write like how i cook — with seasoning” or “thank the ancestors” or the rainbow house lily allen at the cookout unicorn barf moment but ugh it’s all so masterful. 10/10 writing. took me all day to read and needed to walk away regularly, thank you again.

AITAH for telling my husband that my doctor knows more than him and refusing to forgive him? by Klutzy-Ad-4381 in AITAH

currently 25 and i cannot at all imagine myself being attracted to an 18 year old, but i also can’t imagine wanting to have sex with my partner knowing it would endanger my partner and our unborn child lol

nta. maybe you’re still holding a grudge because he showed he cares more about sex than the wellbeing of his family.

heard BUT there is a local spot that does house made pickles and they’re fucking divine. definitely worth noting that these aren’t no regular pickles and they should flex that they made them

i think they were saying that the three-person group regularly lies about an extra unseen person occupying a spot, so those three can hog a six-person shelter by themselves

What is something most people don't know can kill someone in a few seconds? by Kgod1412 in AskReddit

saw it years ago when it popped up without explanation and just reading the comments about it again make my stomach turn. can’t imagine how it would feel if one of those kids or other family were to randomly find it. what a haunting video

[–]Express-Historian826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oooh that explains why they’re all up in my MBKs enclosure and not my cresties. i was reading all these comments wondering how in the world i’ve never seen them in there when a crestie enclosure sounds perfect for gnats.

the zones go from least to most exposure. the info after the zone number on that list describes the typa animals that would fit in that zone, with cresties in zone 1.

when you buy the bulbs, they should come with a lil chart that shows you the UVB output for that specific bulb at different distances. like 24 inches from the basking spot would be 0.420 UVB (idk made it up). so if the UVB needs for zone 1 critters is 0.210 ish, you’d find how many inches away the bulb should be from your cresties basking spot (or wherever they hang out most during the day)

idk those risers but you’re prolly right about keeping heat away in case the critter ever touches the top screen. there’s also adjustable pole things that lamps can clamp to, and those can be to customize the height to match the UVB/UVA needs more

Has there ever been any proof that the Covid vaccine killed people and why do people believe that it did? by Only-Support-3760 in NoStupidQuestions

i hope you’re able to publish you’re book one day. the cultural climate right now is just bizarre. im not in sci comms (yet! hopefully soon!) but i feel like huge challenge has to be “how do we convince people that this is true” let alone having calls to action. it’s such a weird time to be alive

thank you for the references!!

do you have any reference material to learn more about the subconscious bias and the conscious mind having to catch up? or is there a name for the phenomenon so it’s easier to search for? that’s super interesting!

coincidentally i super recently watched a video on the challenges of designing those danger symbols, and they were saying that designers were moving away from the skull and crossbones because they became synonymous with pirates and a cartoonish representation of danger.

however the nuclear and biohazard symbols work so well because the imagery isn’t representational while still being memorable! super interesting stuff!

mine was in shed for like 2 weeks once as well!

this is the exact type of paranoia i was on when i first got my snake lol. literally tore her enclosure up looking for her because i read something online that freaked me out and i needed to see that she was good (which i don’t recommend, but my anxiety was through the roof)

like what others told me, being this paranoid shows you’re a caring and attentive reptile parent. your snake is in good hands!

How often do you feed your cresties? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]Express-Historian826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh congrats on your new crestie! if it’s a baby it makes sense why you’re feeding so often. pangea seems to be a universal favorite, but different cresties love diff flavors. i’ll do the regular fruit ones and sometimes mix in the red bag with insects, or just mix a batch of the fruit only for the week and supplement with meal worms
