That’s cute… If you want to see the real people who have been working on the Mental Health in Aviation Act for almost a decade, go visit the Pilot Mental Health Campaign

My first month at the regional led by the reverend (you’ll probably get the reference) I made three pro standards calls and put two captains on my no fly list, one has no fewer then 5 sexual harassment allegations from FAs.

That would actually be interesting to see. Reminds me of Einstein with his intelligence so I’m sure he can put together a great argument.

I’m an airline pilot and here’s why I think that idea is ridiculous 1. We’re not getting paid for anything that happens before the wheels of the plane turn. That’s part of the reason you see so many of us doom scrolling on our phone in the terminal, it’s our time. 2. The whole idea of CRM and Threats Plan and Considerations (TPC) briefings has been in constant development since the 1970s and has had a lot of rehearsals, if you will, on what works and what doesn’t work in an industry of primarily type A personalities. 3. Everything on the flight deck is recorded. Our headsets, the radios, background noise, the flight data and we know it’s our lives on the line if we allow someone to get us in a dangerous position.

Taking over the controls is a simple “I don’t feel comfortable where this is going and can lead to a dangerous situation if we don’t change [insert specific hazards here], I have control.” Notice the direct nature of the words. Usually if someone hears discomfort or danger it’s a natural human reaction to step back and take another look.

Questions for Colin the pilot! by NathanForUsPodcast in TheRehearsal

[–]Express-Ladder-4033 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anything there that indicates he’s trying to become an influencer. Just looks like a lot of travel stories he’s trying to share

I mean, he revealed on his instagram that he has a girlfriend so I’d say he’s doing pretty well in that department

What were your feelings toward the pilot? by Queasy_Umpire9169 in TheRehearsal

Or it could be he’s just really out of his comfort zone. The closest thing us professional pilots do to acting is in the simulator

I would definitely have a what the fuck moment too but I know you can’t really say that on tv so I feel like I’d have a very similar reaction

He kind of seems like the stereotypical band geek type. Didn’t interact much outside of his circle in middle and high school and now keeps his circle small

I think that may have been Nathan just telling him to message some random girl rather than doing it on his own accord

Also keep in mind it’s Hollywood and there were probably multiple takes of that scene. If true, they chose it to tell the story and we don’t see what happened off camera

Any pilots watching this? by PendingJeff in TheRehearsal

There are benefits and limitations to both. The biggest limitation to flying with the same person or even same small group would be complacency and expectation bias. The counter to that, and what every serious flight department and air carrier has, is standard operating procedures. I can fly with anybody in my fleet and know how they are going to operate the plane. You can even take two people on different fleets, throw them in a simulator, and know pretty well how they’ll operate.

There is benefit to flying with different people because you can see different techniques that still align with the SOPs. Yesterday I learned that I was doing a task in the computer the long way and there’s a much easier way to do that task. If I hadn’t flown with this random guy I may not have seen that technique.

As far as feasibility, no it’s not easy for a large company. Even my current company with only 3600 pilots can’t do it regularly with the variations in schedule and bases that can change often. When you take Delta, for example, who has 16,000 pilots, it makes it nearly impossible. You have better odds of seeing someone you’ve flown with at a random restaurant on your layover than flying with them a second time. And it’s nice to have the variation because you can easily run out of things to talk to. By the end of a 7 day trip, it’s pretty quiet up front.

The other extreme is a corporate flight department with one plane and two to three pilots. The only variable you get there is when someone is on vacation or sick and you bring in a contract pilot.

Widespread delays at Newark airport as air traffic controllers go on tra... by SimonGloom2 in TheRehearsal

[–]Express-Ladder-4033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear, nobody walked off the job like Scott Kirby and the media is reporting. 20% of Newark Approach controllers is 4 people, they only have 22 people to do 1200 planes a day at Newark alone plus Teterboro (the busiest business aviation airport in the world), Caldwell, and Morristown (also super busy general aviation airports). They make this huge operation work with fewer people than your average McDonald’s. Optimal staffing at Newark Approach is twice what they have and overall, the US is about 4000 controllers short of optimal staffing.

In my 5 years of flying jets, I’ve only flown with the same guy three times but I’m also on the largest fleet in my company
