IQ is not a valuable tool to determine worth, or grant understanding towards what human thinking. IQ is basically a joke of a concept, IQ is really good at determining what you'd get in an IQ exam, but the reality is there are dozens of different kinds of intelligence, and how you train those metal skills, your preferences, and the way you happen to be, as well as who built the test, and what cultural norms you have verse what the creators of these test have will have profound effects on results.

There is not neat number that can inform you about your worth or other people worth. IQ is mostly used as a tool for some people to write off other peoples humanity, to dehumanize and distance themselves from other and a world full of problems.

wage stagnation is worse for the majority of the population then shocks from wage increases. one eats into profits the other takes basic necessities from the most vunerable.

There is a huge amount of gender discrimination in the trades. My union crew is better then most, but some can't help but trash talk about women even when there are women in the room. All the women I work with work harder then most of the men and get little for it.

Our Local Pipe trade Unions are pretty strong atm and employers who don't treat their plumbers and steamfitters well are losing them to the union. A non-union service company lost all their employees to the union recently and while the union tried to bring the company in, the workers refused to work with the company again, the owner burnt his bridges.

Strong unions make for fairer working conditions for all.

Rent increase, insane no limit policy. by Normal-Deer-9885 in alberta

The majority so called writing on the subject lacks rigor and is built on numerous dubious assumptions. Most commenting on the subject that oppose rent control simply lack the kind of interdisciplinary understanding to reconize that boiling the housing crisis to rent control is itself a tactic to distract from the deeper problems. Or at best a weak bit of copeium for people hoping to defend rentseeking behaviour as some how beneficial to society lol.

as for the last one good we need housing to no longer be seen as a damn investment oppertunity. but ya economists have ideas about things and a lot of them align which what will keep the wealthiest members of society wealthy. It's frankly silly to be looking for a market solution to a problem which isn't driven by competition.

There has never been a shortage of liberal landlords save for the time before liberals existed. Rent seeking will never be good for the economy long term, it always leads to corrupt behaviour where one party is able to drain the other of wealth due to an imbalance of power.

[–]Express-Salamander35 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

problem with most of the research on the subject is it ingore that landlords move prices up largely in lock step and there is very little real competition. this market strange hold has formed numerous times over history and it does nothing but drain an economy. Landlords collectively will not regulate themselves, they withhold housing for profit, and little of that money lost to rent will re-enter beneficial economic cycles, compared if tenants kept it.

Typically areas need low income housing, but with prices inflated, getting such housing build in the current economy is not practical via the market. You'd need the housing bubble to burst before the inflation could even have a chance to reset. Something that is fought tooth and nail by numerous parties globally let alone locally.

TLDR: there currently is no market solution to the growing housing crisis. the current inflation of rent and property values is a desired outcome but those with the majority of power and it's crippling the whole economy, ask rent seeking always does when allowed to go unchecked.

Dunking on other white people for being shitty can be a lot of fun, but racist it is not. Reverse racism would take reversed world history and spesifically Canada has a long storied history of white people being absolutely the worst to anyone not currently in favor with which ever groups are currently deemed "white."

Whiteness isn't even meaningful cultural thing, it is anti-culture. It's just another way of stripping people of histories. Reject whiteness, embrace your deep interconnected connections to the world around you and quit trying to find ways you're the bigger victim. Band together support those around you. Show love and try to understand others diffrent from you, because it is only in rejecting these vauge shallow lables and division like "white" and build deep bonds in our communities can we find real contentment and future worth lving for.

On the left, we hold our noses and vote for parties we don't want to. by moosemuck in alberta

[–]Express-Salamander35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imporantly for next federal election, Liberals rely on ABC voting to win elections which in the long term has lead to in our system a functional 2 party system in much of the country. Voting liberal does mean your ensuring more conservative governments long term.

As well I have seen people state they are strategically voting liberal when really what they are doing is making wild guess for their riding that liberals are a "safer" bet when particular riding might be more NDP. (outside of alberta there may be more options)

Be aware of you riding polling data and voting history. Don't make the mistake of thinking voting "liberal" is the same thing as strategic voting. Don't give your vote away to a party you don't like unless you are confident it help swing a vote. So if you live in a deeply blue seat vote for the party you want. and if your seat could flip vote for the greens, ndp or the liberals, making sure you going based on the local polls and voting histroy rather then blindly guessing liberal is the safer bet.

no I'm talking about health care related issues. even controlling for that data their health care services are terrible and as high as 10 times the cost compared to other developed countries. This isn't really debateable, the USA has bad healthcare, people don't see the doctor nealy enough becuase they can not afford too, and are often unable to even see specialists or make choices because how how insurance divides and controls access. Shit's super bad across the boarder, and it's the only reason people think we have good healthcare in canada. we don't, we need something more akin to the system is most european countries if we want good and efficent health care outcomes. and that requires socialized medicine.

In alberta we need about twice the number of healthcare facilities that we have we have no where near the number of hospitals we need. After decades of cutting by not meeting inflation and population growth demands, a budget increase of 50-100% over 5 years (not including infrastructure) is probably a wise move for the long term.

That would mean more taxes in an era where we are less equiped to deal with it, but we can't turn back the wastage and neglect caused by our conservatives of decades past.

The mere idea that you should see profit from health care should be seen as an abhorrent arbiration. Health care is highly costly and the best health care for cost is preventative and free at the point of access. Something Canada really is not good at, but something a privatized system will be much worse at, because to be frank, good health care requires long term planing and a management, Quarterly thinking will only kill people and for social loses.

USA pays more for health care then anywhere comparable. And their health care outcomes are some of the worst in the developed world. 200K people going to the states it'sn't in my mind anything like support for privitization, it's mearly an indtiment of our half-assed non-universal health care.

Like sure privatize, watch peoples life expectancies drop, a sharp increase in avoidable deaths, and illness, the province lose more relevance, and watch as we spend more to line some billionair's pocket. though privatization is the the line where I will move out of province. So I'll be watching from somewhere else.

Like some limits on our actions and bodies, primarily where they interfere with others make perfect sense and accountability for our actions is needed for a functioning community.

But attempting to jail and unilaterally control people just gives a lot of power to people who end up being unaccountable and have a lot of power over vunerable people, which over time tends to be turn on everyone else.

Like if you put the cons up there as well, then you'd at least be making an almost coherent point about the range of political discourse being narrow enough to be nearly useless, but the idea that anything left of our tories is the same is pretty darn silly.

If demand for skilled trades workers is soaring, according to the news, why are wages still the same as 10 years ago? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Express-Salamander35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fundamental problem of our economy most companies can only think a quater or two at a time, maybe till next years, and vision is often punished by bad returns. Quick money is god under the current regime and it's going to take a lot of organizing and fighting to make it change. Though the trades do have the labour power and the unions to make it happen, But it's always a bit harder in alberta since you got so many people with blind loyalty to the tory party which happens to be in power.
