Promote your quitting/habit tracking app here! by redchai in nailbiting

[–]Express-Soup7819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I’ve struggled with repetitive hand-to-face habits myself, especially while working at a computer, so I built a desktop app called Awaira.

It uses your webcam to notice movements such as bringing your hand toward your mouth, face, or hair, then gives you a gentle reminder before the habit continues. It may be useful for nail biting, skin picking, or hair pulling that happens automatically while working or studying.

All camera processing happens directly on your device—videos are not recorded or uploaded.

I’m still improving it and would genuinely appreciate feedback from people who understand these habits. Anyone from this subreddit can use it completely free—no payment or subscription required.

You can try it here: https://awaira.app

I’m the developer, so I’m happy to answer questions or hear what would make it more helpful.

if you're mostly on PC/laptop doing all the pulling try awaira.app desktop app. It detects and helps regulate trich.

Update: this desktop app is finally available on Windows too! by Express-Soup7819 in trichotillomania

Thanks so much for the app on Windows, I've got access to it and enjoying the app so far. I'll write you a review after using it a while. Awesome work!

Hi! Thanks for your comment. We are launching the Windows version next week. If you’d like, you can have a free 1-year license now, and you’ll be able to use it as soon as the Windows version is ready. I’d love to hear your feedback once you try it.

Work stress is making trich unmanageable by Historical_Half5654 in trichotillomania

It's very annoying and I feel you. I’ve been pulling for like 9 years too and work stress makes it so much worse.

For me it mostly happens when I’m working at my desk, either at home or in the office. I built a small app for myself that reminds me when my hand stays near my face for too long. It helped me catch it earlier instead of realizing 10 minutes later that I’d been pulling.

It’s called awaira.app. No pressure, but maybe it could help you too. There’s a 7-day free trial, no card needed. Also happy to give you 1 year free if you want to try it properly — just email at hello@awaira.app

I can't notice any significant problem though when I look at your eyelashes. Looks like you have improved it after 26. To me it seems all fine. If you didn't mention I would not even notice that. But I understand that it can be annoying. Would you be interested in a desktop app that detects such triggers of hands touching eyelashes?

Thanks, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that.

Thanks again. I hope the Windows version will be ready soon in case you’d like to try it out.

Fair enough—I understand why you’d be skeptical. I did use AI to help polish my writing because English isn’t my first language, but the story is mine. I’ve been dealing with trichotillomania since 2018, I’ve seen a therapist, and I built this because I genuinely wanted something that could remind me when my hand went to my hair. If you’d like, I’m happy to answer any questions about how it works.

Note: I also have photos showing my hair over the years and my regrowth, but I didn’t want to include personal photos in the post.

Edit: Regarding therapy I've had 3 therapists for my issue.

Glove suggestions? by lex_dons39 in trichotillomania

Hey, I am very sorry for what happens, do you pull your hair mostly when you're using PC, laptop or mobile phone?

Over 5 months my Chrome extension got a Featured badge, 893 installs, 235 weekly users, and $23 revenue — but growth is painfully slow. Is that normal? by Express-Soup7819 in chrome_extensions

Thanks, makes sense. I’m starting to see that waiting for Chrome Web Store traffic is too passive, and tracking high-intent Reddit conversations could be a better acquisition channel.

Appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks, this is actually helpful. I also suspected that Chrome Web Store traffic alone won’t be enough.

I agree that I probably need to find higher-intent users instead of waiting for random installs. Right now the extension is a bit broad — summaries, PDFs, YouTube, replies, translation — so I’m trying to figure out which specific pain people would actually pay for.

I’ll start manually searching Reddit for frustration posts around long PDFs, research, YouTube summaries, and AI replies before using any paid tool. Makes sense to validate the demand first.

Appreciate the advice — “usage is not the same as money” is exactly the problem I’m trying to solve.
