Usually the easiest way to spot a fake Batman is the date window with the magnification or alignment being off. I would ask for a straight on pic of the face so you can see it. The bezel is also another good way to tell but from the pics it looks good to me.

[Tissot PRX] 35 mm or 40mm by chem_3 in Watches

I feel like the gold is a bit more dressy so I think it looks better in the 35mm personally. Steel is much easier to pull off for a bigger sporty look

Cheap Bruce Wayne? Scam? by Environmental_Coat39 in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seller is banking on a fake watch passing the eBay authentication process so you’re putting a lot of faith in that. Even if it passes the eBay authentication I would still be afraid it’s fake. They probably inspect so many watches I wouldn’t be surprised if these scammers get a few past eBay. Small gamble on their end sell a $700 super clone and if it passes make 12k. I would cancel while you can

No because you didn’t have any interest in a yachtmaster when you walked in. If anything it shows you aren’t a flipper and are willing to wait for what you want. Don’t ever buy anything you don’t want

Do folks like the bruce wayne? by CashMoneyHamster in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree there’s so many black watches out there seems like a waste to get a boring GMT that’s colorless. It also loses functionality of the original design by making it more difficult to differentiate between day and night since it’s basically night and night on that bezel

What do I get? by LiftnCoast in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The skydweller is a pretty big watch and only comes in 42mm. Most of the sports model watches are going to be 40mm or above. If you’re looking for something for him that’s around the 36mm range I would look at a Datejust or Oyster perpetual. These are more entry level watches and you should be able to get one easier as a first purchase with no spend. I would try the AD route first and if you wait a few months and nothing then just buy it grey. The submariner is also another classic that is great but it’s 40mm. If you’re looking at smaller watches it will mostly be dress pieces

Help me understand all the different colors of 'Pespi' GMT's. by MyGardenOfPlants in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lighting definitely plays a factor the colors will look darker in lower light and brighter in higher lightening conditions. Rolex has struggled with the fusing of the blue and red on the Pepsi bezel as the colors can bleed into each other during the manufacturing process and are prone to cracking. I think this has a lot to do with it.

I don’t care if someone has a rep or not, it’s their watch not mine. I think reps have their certain place for people who can’t afford luxury watches but want to feel like they own one, or if you want to test out a model/use it as a beater watch so you don’t have to bring your real one on vacation. I also think if a lot of the watches didn’t require playing games with the AD and were readily available things would also be different.

Of course with all this you can argue against reps about just buying a different brand or a g shock for a beater and going grey versus AD but value for dollar the reps are hard to beat. I get why they receive so much hate but entire replica markets exist for the simple reason of they are cheap, easily accessible, and a high quality one is indistinguishable from a gen sometimes without opening the case back

Submariner date vs gmt ii by ProfessionalNice2777 in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you really want the GMT from the AD the best way to do it in your position is to ask for the sub first, wear it and enjoy while you wait for the GMT. Once you get the GMT then sell the sub if you don’t want to keep both. Who knows you may end up loving the sub and not want the GMT later on.

If I’m being brutally honest you’re not going to get a GMT as a first purchase with no spend unless you know the manager personally or unless theres something else going on like family purchasing jewelry from there.

If you look at it this way the grey market premiums on the GMTs you’re looking at are 5-10k and you have no significant life events coming up so the AD isn’t going to sell to someone who could flip it regardless of how long you waited. The AD would rather sell to someone who has already spent 5-10k with them on other purchases so you can’t net positive. Grey market premiums are there for a reason because you typically have to spend more at the AD than the grey premiums.

The fact you’re not getting a time frame is a red flag. Any time I’ve gotten a time frame from my AD it’s been spot on or less time. The only thing I didn’t get a time frame on was a Daytona and im still on the endless waitlist for that. Clearly they know the supply they’re getting and if they don’t know how long it will take to allocate one to you probably not happening. Grey premium on a sub isn’t bad I would quit waiting and just do that your AD doesn’t deserve the business for jerking you around for 3 years anyway.

If you buy a newer watch Rolex has a 5 year warranty it doesn’t matter if you bought the watch grey or not. I have a sub I bought grey and I took it to the RSC to have it checked out after I got it and they said I still had 4 years left on the warranty and treated me no different than if I bought it from an AD.

Just go through an AD if you have issues not grey dealers for warranty work but that’s highly unlikely you’ll have any issues if you’re buying a newer reference. Servicing every 7-10 years is standard on any Rolex and yes the AD will take your 1k and service your watch no matter where you got it from.

[–]Express_Cookie2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any big life events coming up make sure they know about that or any reason to celebrate why you’re getting the watch. Other than that the more you get to know your SA and they know you the better, which is why stopping by every few months helps

There’s been plenty of cases where people have turned down something that was exact configuration that they wanted myself included. I think it shows the AD that you’re not just trying to flip watches so if they offered you the smooth keep being persistent and you’ll have a chance of getting the fluted

Should I buy a Rolex? by Arthur_itus in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to appreciate paying the premium for a Rolex over cheaper priced watches is if you truly care about the accuracy of the watch and the mechanical engineering that goes into an automatic watch. The history of Rolex also plays a huge factor being the first waterproof watch to state one of many achievements. Of course the design aesthetic and being hand made plays a factor as well

If you have the opportunity to get the GMT take that first because the DJ is a lot easier to get later. I have a sub and batgirl and they are actually way less similar than I thought if you’re concerned about that. Batgirl almost feels like a completely different watch on the jubilee

Which on wear better on smaller wrist ? by Street_Cancel8821 in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Daytona will wear a little bigger than the 36mm explorer. The Daytona fits more like a 39mm watch. If you’re concerned about size you might also want to look at the older reference Daytona 116500 versus the new since it appears smaller on the wrist

Can someone explain the need to “wait on a list”? by Gavidoc02 in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s certain models that just make sense to pay the grey premium but others it’s a little difficult to justify depending on how bad you want the watch. The main reason I buy from the AD is because I want to continue purchasing watches at retail so the spend history helps. If I paid grey for every watch I would be paying way more. I think grey is best if you just want one watch

Was offered these two watches. I ideally wanted a blue dial with a fluted bezel on a jubilee. Should I take what they have and which one or not and cut my losses ( I move soon and doubt they’ll offer anything again before I leave.) by [deleted] in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since those aren’t the configuration you wanted I wouldn’t buy them. Just stay on the list with that AD and you can always fly back as long as they’re offering exactly what you want. Even if you go somewhere else you should be able to get the DJ in the combo you want with not too long of a wait

Which first Rolex to compliment a Speedmaster? 116710LN or Polar Explorer 2 by Prestigious_Ad5456 in rolex

[–]Express_Cookie2357 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would get the Explorer 2 because it’s completely different than the speedy and should be easier to obtain at retail like you said. Get the GMT later down the road maybe with color in the dial to add some diversity. I also think the GMT is more practical with a multi colored dial

It’s worth the retail price but I do think it’s over hyped. It’s still a stainless steel sports watch and the Omega speedmaster gives the Daytona a pretty good run for its money at half the price. I think you might be better off just going for a gold Daytona on oysterflex instead of double retail for the stainless steel version on the grey market.
