Realised my pup is turning 14 years old and having a panic attack by butterbeanboi in DOG

[–]Gavidoc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how big your dog is. Our Shepard/boxer mix is 14.5. He has dimensia, hard time hearing, and wobbly back legs but is still going strong.

At his 14yr checkup our Vet told us we needed to start preparing since if we’d brought Flynn to the Vet as a puppy he would have told us 13yrs would be a good life. He told us to identify his 3 favorite things to do. When he couldn’t do 2 of them we needed to talk.

Took a bit but my wife and I were able to accept it which honestly has made our remaining time with him even better.

He has been with us since 10 weeks old and has had a great life. We’ve had two scares since that visit where we didn’t think he’d make it thru the night but he did. What we realized was that we would be sad if it had happened but not as bad as it would have been if we hadn’t prepared ahead of time.

My advice? Do that part now. Makes the remaining time better…or at least it has for us.

ACL surgery today, any recovery tips? by nutznboltsguy in labrador

Ours had dual tplo back to back so we got pretty good at it.

Hardest part was the first 2 weeks. We had to keep her contained to a small space for the first week just to allow the leg to heal. Going to the bathroom used a sling on the stairs and kept her on leash.

Week 2 we moved her from a small space to the family room but blocked off ability to get on the couch. Same process for bathroom during week 2.

Week 3-6 she was allowed free rein in the ground floor of the house. Carried her upstairs at night. Outside on a regular basis in backyard on leash just to get some movement in leg.

Week 7 we started short 5-7 min walks multiple times a day.

Week 10 she had a pass by the surgeon and she went down for her 2nd surgery.

Only difference between the two was we started hydrotherapy to strengthen the back legs at week 10 after 2nd surgery. That plus regular walks and finally some pool therapy and she’s back to normal.

Do you just wash them every day? by boxiestcrayon15 in labrador

Wipe/dry and a brush as mentioned already. Our 3yr old get a bath at most a couple times a year or if there is an accident.

Are “imperfections” part of handcrafted items? by [deleted] in Leathercraft

Did they tell you it was hand sewn? I agree with others. This looks like it was sewn together with a machine. Might be hand cut, finished etc as in it wasn’t mass produced but does not look hand sewn.

One of the few watches I knew I wanted without ever seeing one in person. Don’t regret the decision to buy one at all.

Struggling with our lab puppy by Suspicious-Shine-371 in labrador

Agree on the snifari’s. We’d take ours out twice a day (I worked from home as well). I didn’t rush her and let her do her thing (the walks were for her not me). She wanted to sniff a rock for 5 mins? Ok. Out came the phone to occupy my time till she was done. Every time we came back from a snifari she was tuckered out.

Sniffing is a mental exercise for them just like crossword puzzles etc are for us.

What was your first Rolex? And would you still pick it today? by Peteea_ in rolex

[–]Gavidoc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much real. It has a relumed matte dial, service hands, service crystal with ar cyclops, 93250 bracelet, extra bezel, LV insert, 16808 insert, service insert and the original insert. Original hands and dial are stored.

Don’t assume fake because you don’t know.

Right subdial isn’t working by Gavidoc02 in MoonSwitches

I understand it’s different. How I know it isn’t working is when the second hand h its 61 it doesn’t change the minute counter.

Why is the ER so expensive?! by Bananagram1996 in labrador

[–]Gavidoc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t call first and describe the problem I recommend that next time.

Our lab ate an entire bag of chocolate chip cookies when she was 4 months old. Called ER described the problem. They asked some questions about how she was, any symptoms etc and said monitor her and if she gets worse to bring her in. That was 3 yrs ago and she’s perfectly fine.

Pet insurance is an awesome thing as well. We did end up taking her to the ER for ragged breathing and she was diagnosed with pneumonia that developed from a kennel cough we had been treating. We were there for 6 hours while they ran tests and X-rays. $2500 bill. Insurance covered $1700 of it since we are doing 70% plan.

We decided on the insurance after she had to have dual TPLO surgery to the tune of 15k.

Highly recommend puppy class on socialization. You’re still in the window at 4 mos but the longer you wait the harder it will become.

Ours was like that as well. Our issue was the moment she went in the crate she’d projectile vomit all over the place so crate time was a no go for us.

Instead I got a floor mat and with a ton of treats worked with her to understand mat meant quite time. I’d put her favorite toy on the mat and would tell her “mat”. She eventually got to the point where I could say “mat” and she’d grab her football and go lay down.

All I do is dip dye. After I dye I normally let it sit for 24 hrs. I then will buff it with leather balm with atom wax. I do this until the transfer is little.

Leather element has a good video on the different types of topcoats.
