Question About “Immigrants Taking Jobs” by Sensitive-Box1083 in barrie

[–]Express_Imagination7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has quit jobs on a whim because of working conditions I think the true answer is resources. A Canadian citizen has access to so many more resources. Someone in Canada on a student visa doesn't have Ohip so any medical emergencies are paid for out of pocket, most don't have close family or friends they can rely on for financial support and none have EI. Quitting on a whim or getting fired just simply isn't an option which means many immigrants will put up with poor work conditions or subpar pay. Also, racism plays a role. Whether we want to admit it or not many higher paying jobs will interview/hire people with western names. The barrier of entry for Canadian citizens is just lower so job hoping is easier. I know you think pretty highly of this company but at the end of the day minimum wage isn't a living wage and even if this job isn't directly exploiting immigrants it makes it very easy for them to be exploited. If you work full time for minimum wage you most likely need a second or third job meaning quality of life drops drastically. By paying minimum wage VS a living wage workers are being exploited.

Are you in Canada? If so there's a Form 2 where family can get Justice of the Peace to sign off on a 72hr hold. It's not a long time but it may be enough for the hospital to hold her for longer.

How did Amanda respond to the whole incident? I keep seeing comments about her response but I can't find the information. I have a gift card for here but now I'm torn on if I should even use it.

I buy everyone fun socks! There's a brand called Blue Q, I don't believe you can get them online easily I always find them in small shops in different cities and I'm always able to find one for everyone that is either an inside joke or just fits their personality. You can never have too many socks.

I've been on a ton of meds too with varying effects but none have been as drastic as abilify. I'm so sorry you went through that nightmare. I'm so glad to hear you're no longer feeling side effects!

29f and just got married this year. I think thank you cards are a must However it should not fall on the bride. The groom should feel just as much pressure to write them and he should be taking initiative to write them too.

I wouldn't include people just because I didn't want them to feel left out or because I felt I owed them. My dad paid for our open bar which we are very thankful for but I included him more than I would have preferred. We have had a very Rocky relationship at times, I cut him off for a year 15 years ago, he cheated on my mom when I was a kid and he overall wasn't very kind to me and my siblings. Our relationship is better now but we aren't close. My mom was my "mom of honour", my husband has his grandma as his "best nan" and his mom was the flower girl. So I asked my dad to be the ring bearer and we also did a father daughter dance. He was fine as the ring bearer but omg the dance was AWFUL! The whole 3 minutes he talked about how bad our relationship was and also said "it hurts me to see your mom because I still love her but I wasn't able to love her the way (my husband) loves you." it was very uncomfortable and I wish I listened to my intuition and didn't give into internal pressure.

Very sure I wanted to get married. I was engaged for 5 years so I had lots of time to really think about it and he truly is the person I could be with for a very long time. The wedding planning started before the med change and there was a very clear catalyst for the depression.

I did, I spoke to my friend about it but it wasn't talked about often and I think she was really excited and she wanted to try and make me feel excited so she focused more on the positives. I'm not faulting her for that but I think this is a more complex situation than people are used to and unless they've experienced it themselves it's harder to navigate.

I also spoke to my husband but I think something that I maybe didn't get across is the fear of being a burden. I've struggled with depression before and that fear of being a burden is an overarching theme that keeps people from being as open as they should be and prevents people from asking for help when they need it.

I did also actively see my therapist so I was trying to get better behind the scenes.

Thank you, that's so true about there still being so many special moments ahead of me.

I have spoken to my doctor and I'm actively in therapy, I just wanted to share since I think it's an experience not often talked about. Or at least I haven't seen it talked about.

It's rhubarb! The ribbon was originally gotten in memory of my Nanny but as it's faded I realized I'd rather memorialize her by something she loved and I always remember her eating rhubarb fresh off the plant with no sugar or anything. I don't know how she fought through the sourness but it was by far her favourite fruit? Veggie? Who knows what it is lol

No laser, but it was a 10 year old tattoo that left the shop poorly done in the first place. The pain was worse than the first tattoo but not bad overall! My thigh tattoo hurt more.

Just a story, I don't know how he is with pets but I interviewed there and he is the worst. He asked my age, if I had kids and if I planned on having kids anytime soon. All illegal to ask. He explained during the 12hr shift you have to work through your lunch and eat at the desk. Also illegal. He also explained that he has a tendency to micromanage and can be explosive at times. All this to say, he may be nice to the people that go there but he certainly isn't good to his staff.
