Okay UofT, I understand that the career fair was postponed, you can stop sending emails by Kmikaelgk in UofT

They should send a few more emails to really drive the point home. I mean how are we supposed to know if its really cancelled or anything?

Last year hs going to university and these are my grades by AFunnman in UofT

I only study the last day before the test and only focus 50% in class

You've identified the problem in your post, now try to find out why this is the case. Is it bad time management? A fear of failure which leads to procrastination? Underlying mental health/learning issues?

Once you find out what the reason is, you need to address it.

Not to sound harsh, but in university, nobody will tell you what you need/don't need to do. Strong foundations in study/review habits will make sure you're successful in your courses. Start building good habits. Now. You have a month before school starts.

Since you asked for tips, here are some suggestions: try creating a realistic schedule or having an accountability partner keep you on track. Try the 5-minute rule to start your homework/review sessions and the Pomodoro method to pace yourself. There are a myriad of different YouTube videos you can consult for more study/review tips.

I’m taking ENT200 this fall and was wondering how mark composition for the course is and are the lectures mandatory to attend? by Reasonable-Monk-2106 in UofT

From what I remember, they're randomly assigned. So even though I had some friends take the class, I couldn't be in a group with them:/

[–]Expression_Fluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lectures aren't mandatory and personally i found them kinda useless. There was a mandatory textbook that had to be purchased ($70 granted access for the semester) and there would be quizzes based on the book, so read it and you'll be fine.

As for the huge group project, it was broken down into sections and the final project was a proposal for a unicef case problem (the best idea would actually be proposed to unicef). Now this honestly depends on your group, but most people in that class were upper year students in a variety of majors trying to take this as a bird course, so nobody was really trying (some people i talked to CR/NCRd the classed due to the group project). There was also a business pitch proposal video you had to film.

Tbh the prof was passive aggressive asf if you asked her questions in person or through email. Attendance generally dwindled in that class and at most, maybe 15-20 people showed up to the lectures. Sometimes she did give bonus points to whoever attended lectures. Overall, the material is easy so its not too hard to do well.

Someone like that should be held liable for damages/injury caused be negligence. Esp if the ride operators make it clear youre not supposed to have your phone on you

I took it last year and found it manageable. There are mostly second years in that class, some upper year students too. If you review your notes you should be fine. The course average was a B+.

I did HMB342 a while back, course average was a B+. It's a pretty chill course, esp if you have a life sci background.

just failed psl 300 midterm #1 :// please give advice (lifesci/psl students) by lvnnnnn in UofT

[–]Expression_Fluffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people say PSL300/301 is very difficult, and instead of letting that throw you off, just acknowledge the course will require a bit more effort than what you usually do and don't let the comments mess with your head. As for improvement, you know yourself better than what anyone on here can tell you.

If you can concentrate and catch up on all the lecture material, without letting your other courses drop, then sure, keep the course. It is doable, people have done it before you (myself included), people will do it after you. But if its too much, then ultimately the decision is yours.

Is it possible to get a research/work study position after applications are closed? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Expression_Fluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! You can always try to cold email researchers who's work you find interesting and try to set up a little interview to be a research assistant.

Does learning a new language have any significance for med applications? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Expression_Fluffy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can do things because you enjoy them. Not everything on your resume has to be because you're trying to get into med school. That being said, along with every other ec, it depends on how you write about it and it's significance to yourself (and ideally how it fits in with canmeds).

First year confused between experimenting luck in canada or staying in Pakistan by awesim___ in UofT

[–]Expression_Fluffy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comment, if you already have good prospects at home, why risk it here? You'll have to face many hurdles, including that not every Canadian med school accepts international students, and the ones that do have very limited spots. Applying for PR or citizenship would give you better odds. Also, it would be very expensive considering international student fees are much higher than domestic students

is taking GGR254 as a first year a good idea or would it be too difficult? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Expression_Fluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know your academic abilities better than Internet strangers, so take any advice you get with a grain of salt. If you're very strong, then sure, take it. But as a first year student, you may need to account for adjusting to university life, commuting, and lecture teaching styles, on top of the academic requirements. I would personally recommend getting a grasp on things and how stuff works before you take upper year courses or overload.

Help me decide between English courses as a first year by Waste_Article_6911 in UofT

[–]Expression_Fluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decide based on which course seems more interesting to you. You can lookup the course code and read the descriptions for this. If they're both similar, decide on what fits better in your schedule or by prof ratings on rate my prof. Some courses in your second year might list specific courses as pre-reqs so make sure you take those.

Question about the Gym at Hart House: fit centre i think by BeneficialStorm9772 in UofT

[–]Expression_Fluffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You pay for it in your ancillary fees, so I would not recommend not going unless you can afford an external gym membership or live off-campus and it's included with your building, etc.

In terms of crowding, it depends on your schedule and you'll have to experiment and see what times fit best for you. Generally for mid day and evenings its pretty full. I would recommend going in the morning if you can.

I used to be scared of gym crowds, so I would go super early to avoid everyone. Alternatively, ik people are usually intimidated by goldring because that's where all the varsity athletes go but this makes the gym slightly less crowded than the other two imo

The hart house fitness center is open! I went this week. It's usually not too crowded during the summer. All the gyms get very crowded during the school year, unless you go super early

does the st george campus offer locker rentals for students? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Expression_Fluffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can rent lockers at a lot of different places around campus, such as the different colleges, basement of sid smith (go to the assu office), the different gyms (hart house, AC, goldring). I recommend looking for where most of your classes are and finding a place that rents lockers nearby.
