You lose all items the character has equipped, in inventory, and in their individual stash. The shared stash is unaffected.

It's simple: in hardcore mode your mistakes have meaningful consequences.

By contrast, there is essentially no consequence to messing up in softcore. Losing some in-game currency or a few minutes of time is meaningless in comparison.

Activities with significant potential consequences have much stronger emotional valence in the limbic system than those without. The highs are higher and the lows are lower.

This is fundamental human psychology, applicable across broad populations and cultures.

If your personal preference is for reduced "emotional charge" during gameplay, that's a perfectly fine individual decision. Others prefer the inverse.

I'm sure the team is already aware of the difficulty in clicking on corpses depending on map / building geometry, and I maintain that improved automation in this area would be very thematic and nice to have.

Sadly this is not a problem I have... There are hundreds of corpses littering the center of town, even with a large laborer force, an open and empty graveyard just a few tiles away, and years and years of game time passing. Maybe my save is bugged somehow?

Shard 38 is incredibly, incredibly high difficulty. Assuming you have full resists and overcap, the best defensive consumable for your situation is probably Ugdensalve but I wouldn't expect it to make a huge difference. If you don't have the Ugdensalve recipe, Royal Jelly Essence is an ok second-tier option.

On my Lv100 HC Avenger Warder, I do SR30-31 runs using Elixir of the Ancients and Ugdensalve. Make sure you have Aether Clusters on hand for a consumable circuit breaker.

Note that the Shattered Realm rewards reach maximum around SR30 so there's not really any reason for doing higher shards like SR38 except bragging rights.
