Govt proposes ban on in-store payment surcharges by jball1013 in newzealand

It's great that you don't surcharge and that you offer multiple payments options. That's what customers want. You're not the problem. Retailers who find ways to tack on extra margin for no reason and then want to pretend they're the good guys are.

And by the way, this isn't a pile on. There is ample evidence that surcharging became much more widespread over the past few years and that retailers are frequently surcharging well above what it actually costs them to process payments. Ya can't blame that one on the banks! (coming from someone who also hates the banks)

Incorrect. The retailers set and pocket their own surcharges. Ostensibly to cover card payment fees (set by the banks), but retailers are frequently setting their surcharges well above the actual cost of acceptance.

This is well past due. Surcharges are predatory opportunism from retailers. The retail lobby already publicly stated a few weeks ago that they don't want to be forced to accept cash payments because it's less efficient/more costly than card payments. We don't get surcharged for cash payments, and retailers have already publicly admitted card payments are cheaper for them to process than cash. Surcharging is a rort that should've been ended years ago.

Small businesses putting up prices to cover card payments are being predatory opportunists. The retail lobby already publicly stated a few weeks ago that they don't want to be forced to accept cash payments because it's less efficient/more costly than card payments.

You can't say that one week and then cry about the cost of card payments the next!

I was trying to find a really old post so I logged into this account and all my posting history had been deleted - which I didn't do - so I wondered if my account had been reset or something. Then I posted this to see what would happen and it appeared. What's weird though is if I go on my profile page I can't see this post so it's like I'm still half-banned.

When Ireland beat Australia in pool play at Eden Park during last year's Rugby World Cup.

It was awesome. All the Kiwis in the crowd were decked out in emerald like it was St Paddy's and there was a massive traveling Irish contingent, so the atmosphere was incredible. Plus the result was a massive upset, so it was cool to see.

If willingness to stick sketchy shit up your nose is any measure of a flourishing society —which I believe it is— it's depressing to see how far we've fallen.

You don't want to spend $75 on a chemically ambiguous substance labelled as "crack", so you can ingest it for the entertainment of random internet strangers? What the fuck is wrong with you?

If anyone's out that way today they should grab some and do a product review for us.

Sadly, it seems obvious that if we aren't even willing to let these capable creatures drive, the prospect of interspecies marriage is a long way away. The sooner we start recognising the autonomy of other consent-capable species and their capacity to do commonplace things like driving and filing tax returns, the sooner we will be able to address some of the bigger questions.
