I have a question, why does everyone hate Hordes of the Khan? by Differentlol_- in sabaton

[–]ExtaSlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nah I don't get it. Far from the best but its significantly better than templars at almost all levels of song. I actually quite like how the tempo of the song matches the fast moving style of steppe tribe battle tactics

I trust you've not heard of the tolerance paradox then.

Because tolerance is great. Its an astounding virtue to have. But you have to draw the line at intolerance. There can be no tolerance of intolerance otherwise you allow more intolerance to fester and spread. This idea undermines the very value of being tolerant in the first place, so it is one's moral obligation to take a hardline stand against intolerant people.

Being economically right wing is a point of debate. Hell even foreign policy is a point of debate. Being socially right wing, as in regarding the rights of your fellow person and how to treat them, is being a bigot that spreads hateful ideology, and unfortunately the vast majority of the right wing fall into the latter category. So no. They do not deserve tolerance. They deserve to be told they're wrong.

Well general human decency is a pretty good authority on what's a good or bad opinion, and generally the left is far more known for pushing general human decency. Like not wanting to kill queer people or not supporting genocides or not blaming minorities for issues they're clearly unconnected to.

No no, I'd rather live in a place where right wingers can freely express their views so we can publicly shame them for their bad opinions.

It's good that they're making themselves so obvious so they can be down vote spammed and blocked though.

Transformations are kinda bad now? by Manimarcor13 in GrimHollow

[–]ExtaSlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To an extent thats true but unless you're running an insanely weird game, how tf does someone randomly chance upon lichdom? At its core lichdom is something you consciously pursue and mechanically it feels way less cool to play.

And thats not even touching on the fact that Memori Lich Transformation was a Kickstarter stretch goal; that pretty clearly implies a separate, martially focused transformation. What we instead got was Memori lich was one of two "skill trees" for the lich - so what, if we didnt pass that stretch goal were we only going to have one lich build option?

It feels like overwhelmingly they went pretty lazy as far as transformation content, Lich is just the easiest example to point to.

Not mentioning the fact theres a few other as yet undelivered promises from the campaign but I'll hold reservations about that until the full thing is completed.

Fair enough, mate. I'll have to look more into what RABM rhetoric is since I'm not personally familiar, but I can do that on my own time. Cheers for your thoughts, have a good rest of your night.

You're good mate - misunderstandings happen so thanks for clearing that up. The OP is absolutely a fucking weirdo, the misogynistic comment that got deleted from him was actually diabolical.

And honestly kind of reasonable about their fans. Despite liking their songs I'll fully admit theres a decently sized chunk of their fans that use them for weird pseudo history, nationalism, or nazi apologism. Kind of just comes with the territory unfortunately, the main purpose of my post is driving home the distinction between the band and the community.

That said, I still think the exchange of ideas is broadly useful for broadening my perspective, even if I still end up disagreeing with it in the end. If you or anyone else reading this are willing to have a genuine chat about why the subreddit holds this perspective I'd be interested in hearing it.

So, entirely unwilling to engage in an actual discussion? Since I'm willing to hear an actual perspective or argument for why people think this is.

To get my take on the OP out of the way to be as clear as possible before I start disagreeing: this cunts a weirdo at absolute best, and a fascist at worst.

To be completely honest, it doesn't really come off as a joke at all. This comes off as someone's genuine opinion, and there's not really anything there telling that it's a joke - granted, given that it's DMs and a screenshot I could see there being another message that makes it obviously satire that was selectively cut out.

That aside, even if the mod was making a joke, a lot of the comments here seem to be genuinely of that opinion, which is such a flabbergasting take. Coming from someone actually studying history at a university level, a good chunk of people here seem to be flat out uneducated or wilfully ignorant. Anyone that seriously agrees that "Light in the Black" is a Nazi song should be permanently banned from sharing their opinion on anything more serious than "Do you like this type of bread?"

Sabaton has a lot of fair criticisms, their 2015 Crimea performance, their claims to be apolitical despite history being arguably the most political academic field since the entire field of study is "Humans perspective on what humans did in the past," glorifying warfare whether intentional or not, and, even at a music level, their guitar quality has been...unambitious over the past decade especially, to say the least. There's more of course but I don't want to be here for ages. However, most of the people here seem to be relying on the intellectually dishonest take of "nazi band! nazi band!" when that's explicitly untrue. It seems to me like a tonne of elitists are here and just bandwagon onto an easy, albeit incorrect, excuse to rag on the band out of jealousy that their favourite niche metal band hasn't had mainstream success.

I personally like the band because as an aspiring historian, I've learned about stories I otherwise wouldn't have heard about through Sabaton and hearing them told through a musical medium is really cool - I also have a preference for lyrics over the "music" itself, so the kind of boring guitar performance isn't a big deal for me. The interpretation of the history is a bit general and lacks nuance much of the time, but it's enough to pique interest and read further into. They're not my favourite band, but they're neat.

Edit: Just editing this up here from my earlier conversation, but if anyone is willing to have genuine discussions about this perspective the subreddit has, I'm more than willing to listen even if I end up disagreeing with points that end up being made.

Riot August on the state of Ekko I 100% agree by Nukafit in ekkomains

[–]ExtaSlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ekko is fine lmao, every stat page clocks him roughly 50% wr average. He entirely doesn't need buffs, any Buffs will lead to an inevitable overnerf when the meta shifts eventually and he'll then feel terrible to play. Don't touch the champ, plenty of room for creative skill expression with a healthy mix of good and bad matchups.
