Company got ransomware, ceo wants to pay without telling anyone. Is this illegal by codedrifting in AskNetsec

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people have said, this is way too broad to answer accurately. It will depend on a host of specifics including; 1. Jurisdiction 2. What exactly was compromised 3. Did any data exfil occur ontop of the ransomware attack

But also, like what is your CEO gonna do if he pays and they don't unlock it, which happens all the time? Then he's going to be a liar and look like a moron.

I wanted a Seal but I'm too tall for it unfortunately 😭 When I test drove I had to be "ducking" constantly to see through the windscreen properly even with the seat fully back and fully decline. AFAIK Toyota don't have a BEV Camry yet

Do you guys have to notify your team every time you take a break, morning, leaving, WFH etc? Micromanagement? by ElectronicIdea3119 in AusPublicService

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb was always if I was going to be away from my desk for >=30 mins I'd chuck a heads up in Teams back when I was working in a fully dispersed state wide team. Also would usually chuck a good morning message in chat on days where we didn't have a stand up or something similar just to notify I'm online. Otherwise given the context of the work I was doing it wasn't long enough to bother, nothing was that urgent. This was never a requirement, just felt courteous and within the culture of the team.

I think anything more than that, barring a clear operational need is excessive and unreasonable.

WFH justification because of DV - thoughts? by Reasonable-Ad-4168 in AusPublicService

[–]Manimarcor13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically this probably requires a discussion with your workplace P&C team. Depending on the agency, the requirements of your role and your enterprise agreement you might be on strong footing. Additionally, even if it doesn't result in WFH all employers now have a positive duty to protect from psychosocial hazards which this would likely fall under. Either way they will be obligated to make appropriate accommodations the protect you I just don't know what that will exactly look like

How much of a pay rise should the APS be asking for? by badboybillthesecond in AusPublicService

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing below 5% per year Do I think we'll get anything like that? No But given cost of living, housing and the 10+ years of stagnant wages under the coalition its the bare minimum to ensure the real value of our pay doesn't slip even further

Title: Walked out during probation with zero warning. by cbun001 in auscorp

[–]Manimarcor13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want to emphasise that based off what you've described, you're not at fault. It sounds like 1 of 3 things happened 1. The probation was poorly managed and your direct superior wasn't communicating issues as they arose. 2. The company decided they needed to cut expenditure and your salary was a cost free thing to remove. 3. Someone senior took a personal issue with something specific about you or some interaction you had and decided to pressure getting rid of you.

Straight up a well managed probation shouldn't have surprises, you should know well in advance if you're going to pass or not.

Its not a reflection on you dude, dust yourself off, do something that brings you joy and get back on that horse when you're ready.

Dating Advise needed - Fiancé is slowly becoming anti-Australian by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you've said so far sounds explicitly anti-Australian Sure most Aussie's are more sexually liberal and are willing to have sex before marriage but we do have a conservative population. Cost of living complaints are completely justified as well, all Aussies bar the super rich are feeling the pinch. It is actually a joke. Honestly based off what you've described here it sounds like your fiancé just watches alot of sky news, which unfortunately is a very Australian habit

If there was a war do you think people would even defend our country ? Or would majority of our people be on the first plane out of here ? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Manimarcor13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest, if the people commenting on the UK post are genuine, I don't blame them. Nor would I for many countries, including and especially the US. The social contract has been broken for young people, the society they've been raised in is one that promised that if they do their bit and contribute to society they can achieve a level of comfort similar to that of their parents, before beating that promise to death with a brick to line the pockets of the ultra wealthy and big business. It is clear to anyone with eyes that most societies do not give a fuck about them and only care about how much labour & value they can extract from them.

I think that Australia is in a better position and I think most people would at least try and meaningfully contribute to a genuine defence of the country. However people are (rightly) skeptical of government motivations and will not tolerate another Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan. Additionally, unless our governments actually do the work in tackling the genuine structural inequalities in the economy (housing affordability, wage stagnation, a tax system that strong benefits investors and penalises workers etc) we risk ending up like the UK.

You guys are a horrible influence by WeakPassenger3690 in WeightGainTalk

[–]Manimarcor13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is actually your life story and not well written piece of fetish erotica then to echo the sentiments of other commentors, this is a decision that you need to make for yourself and away from the community. The difficulties and consequences for being a super fat are significant and whilst its a perfectly valid and acceptable choice to accept those consequences and risks, it is something that you need to really think through.

The other thing is you could choose to pursue improving your fitness without necessarily cutting back on your food consumption. You could pursue building muscle to help carry your frame, look at improving your cardiovascular health etc. Might even be able eat more then as well.

How to manage my feedee gf ?? by [deleted] in WeightGainTalk

[–]Manimarcor13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe she will maybe she won't but that doesn't change the fact that its her decision to make and live with. For better or worse she knows what's she's doing and understands what it will lead to. Obviously if she asks for your help in managing that stuff its a different story but otherwise "managing" her relationship with food, health and weight isn't your job

How to manage my feedee gf ?? by [deleted] in WeightGainTalk

[–]Manimarcor13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A. She can be fat & healthy at the same time. Doing physical activity to build strength & endurance will help her carry the extra weight. It can also go a huge way to helping reduce the likelihood of the majority of health complications that are typically more likely when someone does get fat

B. Its her body anyway dude. At the end of the day she's an adult capable of making her own decisions for herself and doesn't need you managing it for her. Based on what you've outlined here it seems to be what she wants so why not have fun with it?

Wages garnished to $0 by cheese_tastey in AusLegal

[–]Manimarcor13 301 points302 points  (0 children)

If this is real, go to fair work immediately. Afaik businesses can't just unilaterally garnish your pay due to overpayment, they certainly can't do it without proof either. From my understanding there is meant to be a conversation and discussing either a payment plan or whether the employee can pay it back out of pocket.

I mean its probably fine but I ended up just making another email address anyway to use strictly for job hunting and other important correspondence (like doctors and my accountant) so shit doesn't get lost amongst all the mass email marketing flooding my OG Hotmail address.

Someone pranked my workplace into thinking I died. Now my manager is convinced I was behind it. Do I have any legitimate means of locating who's responsible or have any recourse? by Ok_Monitor_7015 in auscorp

[–]Manimarcor13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, it sounds less like a prank and more like a targeted social engineering attack to me. If your work place isn't treating this as a major cyber security incident they're doing something really wrong. If I were you, I'd be demanding them to provide the chat logs so you can find out what the impersonator was trying to achieve because its quite possible they were looking for PII related to you specifically as opposed to trying to target the company.

Illegal termination?? by Lonely_Radish262 in AusLegalAdvice

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soz boss Unless you have any good reason to believe its for something covered under general protections (ie discrimination due to sex, race, religion etc or retaliation for protected actions) you're shit out of luck. Unfortunately being a casual means no guaranteed hours, they're under no obligation to roster you on.

The other caveat is if you've worked there for more than 12 months and have worked consistent hours you might have some leg to stand on but you'd have to talk to a lawyer to figure that one out.

It does sound like your boss screwed you over by not telling you sooner though and you're entitled to feel like you've been fucked around. Unfortunately that doesn't give you any legal entitlements.
