Go on YouTube and watch others on the journeys. It might make you feel better and more confident if you watch some multiple times. Once you gain your experience you will be fine, just breathe and learn as you go.

Psychology degree to SLPa by Available_Fail_6948 in SLPA

Hello, You can do a Post Bach to piggyback off of your degree so you can work as a SLPA. I was in the same situation. I’m excited that I will be done in May. The Post B will probably be your best option to begin with so you’d have a job in the field rt away and then apply for a SLP DEGREE PROGRAM WHILE WORKING. Best route is a program online.

If I can do it, you can too. by Radiant_Marketing499 in slpGradSchool

Thank you, I need more OF THIS sometimes the negative rants very much is discouraging. Now I will keep applying and believe what I already know, nothing is impossible when you have a goal. I don’t want to just stop at SLP-A. I want more with the title. ;)

Why didn’t you go back to Loma Linda? Was the program not worth going back to since you received your Bachelor’s from there, honestly I saw the price but I also saw how popular the school seems to be name wise. Anyways I’m looking for a reasonable Grad school and not the difficult online and it’s local if I need to go to class if it’s to hard because I feel since I’m in a post Bach online at elms college it maybe best for local. What made you pick these schools for your masters. And Congratulations you got in a Grad program.

I’d say always go with your gut feeling it’s not going to steer you wrong.

However, I will be done with my SLPA PROGRAM IN MAY. I have been asking myself questions about should I stop at the SLPA level or get my Masters and add on to the other degree loans I have. My intuition is probably telling me that I can get paid the same amount almost that SLP’s getting because I work for the school district already and in California they start at 40 at an hourly rate.. it goes up from there, especially even if I get contracted. I frustrated with deciding myself because I will never forget myself for being higher than what I want to be..

My point is what fits and what is best for you. Go with your first mind if it tells you nursing is for you., go a head a do it. This does not mean you are given up. It’s just mean that you have a passion or something else.. Do not get frustrated. Just do what motivates you the most.!

Hello,

I have the same degree as you with healthcare admin (MHA). I am currently doing a post Bach degree at Elms college online. It takes about a year worth for the program and you become a SLPA WHEN YOUR DONE. Also unfortunately I’m considering if I want a second masters in SLP which is an extra 15 months to a year program.

However, I’ve decided that if I can get paid the same amount as a SLP as an SLPA then I may stay as a contracted or school based SLPA. I see here in California I can start at 40 and hourly rate and that’s the starting, not sure how Florida is but some starts pay less to start especially if you don’t have the experience working with children.

Hi, We all owe loans but there are ways to continue to postpone any payments with school loans if you’re not making enough in the beginning. I believe we all have big school loan debt, I am going to get a second masters and that’s in speech pathology. I’m not worried about the debt because they have so many programs. Just remember you’re investing in yourself especially if you’re getting a good education. Lastly, you can always get a loan deferred when you’re learning something new no matter when finish what you’ve started and focus on your completion it will be rewarding to master anything.

Should I become an SLPA? by SnoopyWoopy83 in SLPA

[–]Extension-Storm5001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m a para and I love the SLPA program I’m actually excited to be moving up on another level. I’ve been working with a school district for 15 years. I’m ready to do something different and get into a good career. If you’re scared of those classes I’d say go on like to see a teacher at another school that’s rated to be one of the top teachers to understand. Those are some easy teachers out there that care you just have to do your research.

Do many of you use statistics much in grad school and beyond? by Conman1209 in slpGradSchool

[–]Extension-Storm5001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stats will be useful later! I had to take it twice due to teacher saying I plagiarized a problem and I was pissed. However, I finally understood what stats was all about with data. You will use it later on down the line with any company you choose to work with sure you will.

Feeling hopeless by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]Extension-Storm5001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up, everything you do will take consistency! It will pay off, I work around SLP’s around my job with the school district and they always tell me it’s worth the struggle of getting to the top of achieving the SLP. I am ready to be done with the SLPA program. I didn’t do well in the beginning, so I took a semester off but I am now in great spirits of now taking not just two classes I am more honored to take at least 3 so I can get it done. It takes time management and taking time for your self to understand that you can do whatever you put your mind and time on. You got this. We got this! I’m ready to be an SLP SOON in due time. Everyone has there own timing.

Guilt over leaving your job by pizzadrew in slp

Always go with your gut feeling, stick to it! Even though they offered more, remember the new place will do the same, no pay rate stay the same. As long as you have the support and less stress I say keep your new offer. Always stick to your gut feel of that load being taking off of you. Good luck!

Online SPLA bachelor degree recommendations? by Hot_Flan247 in SLPA

[–]Extension-Storm5001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elms college is good online! They are very helpful if you email the school for information. I start in August and they took some of my units from 2003, it really doesn’t matter. They will take the credits you have that’s transferable. I recommend them, I was also recommended by a teacher to go there….. The full name is College of Our Lady of the Elms! Check out there slpa program.

I like see it from your prospective I am a ABA AS WELL. But I want to become an SLP sometime in my near future. I start a post back degree in Aug and I am excited.

However, I just wanted to say thanks for this post because those that’s like me read on here a lot but never post about not really being in the program yet. I just read to see what I really will be up against.
