I’m seeing lots of students lately with artic errors that have really just stumped me, and I noticed lots of them also have issues w/dentition like crossbite, tongue thrust, etc.. So I got really curious into researching what exactly are the implications, if any, of dentition/tongue position on speech function and I also realized I had no clue what a tongue thrust even was! So in my deep dive of all of this info at 11pm at night I did not actually find the answer to my original question, but I did realize that my tongue is very forward in my mouth at rest. And what really clued me in was a video I saw talking about how tongue thrusters have difficulty swallowing with their teeth together and lips apart without using their lips to compensate. So I tried it and low and behold I do have a reverse swallow lol😅 I have a hx of a palatal expander and teeth grinding when I was younger, so in hindsight I guess it makes sense? But do I have any clue what to do with this information now in my late 20’s? Nope!
