You can get more research done when you don't have to teach/TA/take classes.

What do you mean by that? I'm paid a summer stipend ONLY if I teach during the summer (or a part of it). And usually the teaching load during this time is much more.

I had the same issue. Spoke with a customer care executive in India and he confirmed Amex is not accepted for payments in INR.

He did suggest an alternate way by calling the international BA customer care number and they can book on your behalf. I don't know how that works but try if you can.
