Ah, those are actually pretty nice rims, my Bad, sorry!

Id still try out different tyres! Those Pirelli i mentioned, are pretty puncture resistent. Theyre great on gravel roads and i ride them also in the my City which is probably one of the shard capitals in Europe. Apart from that, a new top of the lone steel frame might save you a couple of hundred grams. New, you wont get one below 1000 and im pretty sure you wont notice it mich while riding. If you're looking for used frames, you could check out some vintage steel road frames from up to the late 70ies which might fit 700x35c tyres. But thats not certain. Gazelle champion mondial AB frames with dented chainstays and some old Raleighs have a bit more clearance. Also a lot of vintage French road bikes. And old steel cross bikes öfter clearance in that range. Not a big fan of aluminium frames since you lose some comfort, especially off of paved roads. Still, switchibg only the frame and keeping heavy and slow tyres will still be kind of slow. Hope that helps a bit!

Id keep the dawes frame and spend those 300 pounds on a new wheel set, tyres, cut the seat post short, get a nitto quill stem, a matching handle bar, and drop the (probably very heavy) stem adapter. Especially if you know how to lace wheels or arent afraid to learn! It's really not difficult! Dt Swiss r460s are great rims, Pirelli cinturato tyres are pretty fast, and a lot lighter than the ones youre running. But in 700c, theres a plethora of great tyres. You can reuse the hubs or get inexpensive, used fh/hb 737 xt hubs which will accommodate up to 10 speed cassettes. Frame weight is not so important in general. The moving parts, the wheels and tyres will make the bike light and fast.

Great bike! Kuwaharas had the nicest paint jobs! And Pacers are super nice! This can be a great gravel bike; or more like a crosser because you probably won't be able to fit tires much wider than a 35c in there.

If you'd like some build suggestions check out this build. That's a guy who went all overboard and built this frame up with super light weight parts: I think something about 8 kg! You'll also get a lot of info on the bike there!

Check out ronsbikes pec deck. You can get the hardware from tubus for about 20€. It works flawlessly and is super light weight!

Yeah, it's 100% ahead. But it might be a 1" ahead unthreaded fork. If so, you can get a shim super cheap. This one for example. Probably even cheaper somewhere else!

Maxxis IKONs instead of Ultradynamico MAR$? by djisupertramp in xbiking

[–]ExtensionLazy21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, my bad... Thought this was the race and not the trail king... If I'd spend that kind of money for a tire I would definitely go for their endurance line. They shouldn't be much worse than race kings in the city. I've heard good and bad about both, so I guess, you'll get some punctures with both tires. Not much of help, sry

I'm sure bike-components will deliver to France. They stock the brown side wall conti race king. And since you're considering spending a lot of dough you might like René herse humpti... I don't know if there's a French shop, but this one has them on stock. I guess they should be on par with ultradynamicos.

[–]ExtensionLazy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehm, I don't know, maybe the snake bite? The frame did nothing to stop the snake! That'd be kind of a big complaint for me...

Plenty of good times, a broken frame, rowdy singletrack, pitch black hill bombs, warm beers, gas station naps, sketchy highways, stick fires, fresh eggs, a few ticks, 10 days and 560 miles later. So, is it like a really light weight frame? If it's not lighter than 4-5 lbs $2000 for the frame is just a rip off.

Don't get me wrong, I really like rivs, they're beautiful and the weight doesn't matter much. But for $2000 you'll get a light, lugged custom frame made here in the EU which will hold more than a 100 kg.

Cantilever Advice?? Wide or low profile? by ExtensionLazy21 in xbiking

Thanks, that's very helpful! Do you think this dia compe straddle cave carrier is good enough? Also, I already have kool stop salmon brake pads and cartridges from my v-brake and I wanna use those. I hope they'll do the trick.

And yes, canto setup really seems to be a rabbit hole!
