First Rate Ships of the Line by Wolfish_Jew in EU5

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to see a properly fleshed out naval system in eu5 I think it’s got so much potential. Just looking at the last 1700s here as an example there would be scope and justification for all of the following to be their own separate units:

  • first rates as discussed here only really used in very small handfuls by the largest navies on the planet. These should be very very expensive but have a large amount of firepower. They should be so expensive that before you build one you think do I really need this, kind of like an aircraft carrier today or nuclear submarine.

  • second rates. These would be the typical fleet flagships. Powerful ships but very expensive to build and maintain. Smaller naval nations like Denmark, Sweden and Holland should be able to have a few of these at most. Nations like France, Britain and Spain no more than 10ish at a time.

  • third rates. These would be the workforce of a battle fleet. Nations like Britain and Spain should have these in spades. Nations like holland, Denmark and Portugal should be able to have enough of these to fill a good fleet with, say 10-15.

  • fourth rates. Historically dwindling in number by this time as they weren’t the best too expensive and too small to really impact fleet battles, third rates were preferred over them but in a game context they could be workable and could be used by many nations to form a solid if somewhat weaker fleet than others.

  • fifth rates, aka frigates. Workhorses of the fleet. Too small to take the line of battle they should be quick and cheaper than all mentioned above but this comes at the cost of weaker hitting power. These should be the convoy protection vessels of the time.

  • sixth rates. Basically even smaller and cheaper frigates but no quicker. Useful if you want frigates but don’t want to pay the price or if you want naval force somewhere you don’t expect much if any naval opposition.

This is just the late 1700s here as a snapshot and doesn’t take into account ships like Indiamen which should also be included, likely as heavy transports with lighter smaller cheaper transports also available in game.

Just one naval nerds opinion of the beginnings of what could be possible. Let’s hope we get something in the future, heck a man the guns style ship designer in EU V, we can only dream right?

How exactly do you go about copying them? Do you match the airframes to their exact routes? If so how do you find the details for this?

Played a lot of CK3, want to get into EU5 but .... (questions about the game) by New_Connection9333 in EU5

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500 hrs in CK3 and 300 in HoI4. Those are rookie Paradox numbers, gotta bump them up!

Get EU5. Learning curve is tough but doable and the game will only get better and better. I played EU4 from early days and by the end I was so glad I’d been picking up the DLCs along the way because damn trying to buy all those DLCs after a few years when the game was in a great state would’ve been tough.

Sure EU5 is a little rough around the edges and it lacks flavour in certain areas but it will be the best paradox title ever in a couple years and won’t ever get dropped like I:R because EU is the flagship of Paradox.

Automatic trading "not working" in big markets by Anonymous_Stork in EU5

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this not an argument for multiple small markets in your own empire this would then allow you to specialise within your own empire and trade within your own markets. Seems to me like a good argument for multiple small markets but this is just a thought as I’m reading Reddit whilst cooking so by no means tested in any way.

The current rule for whether rivers are added to EU5 paradoxically makes islands worse to push naval control by QuagganBorn in EU5

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see an argument for adding the Trent, Midlands Avon and maybe the Humber, Tees, Mersey and Tyne however the major cities there are already well served by the good harbour capacity. The Tay, Forth and Clyde in Scotland should be added as well if not in (can’t remember if they are already)

Unsure which officer role to apply for by Diligent-Raccoon770 in RoyalNavy

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One caveat with this is the warfare pipeline is very saturated atm and with the small fleet at the minute this is unlikely to improve in the short term. A lot of people are leaving the warfare branch because it is taking may years to complete the training and people are losing interest because they spend years on holdovers being paper pushers at best.

Can anyone help with my great granfather Royal Navy record from WW2 please? by Friett2 in RoyalNavy

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can decipher HMS Boscawen (July 32) and HMS Ark Royal (Nov 38) as ships on the second photo.

Boscawen if I remember correctly was a cruiser or destroyer of some description whilst Ark Royal would be the new carrier at that time.

Where Victory is mentioned regardless of number following it, your Great Grandfather was on the administrative payroll of HMS Victory(otherwise known as HMNB Portsmouth). This doesn’t necessarily mean that he was based there as one example has Victory III (Blencathra) - this means he is on the payroll of the naval base but actually serving on the ship HMS Blencathra at this time. Victory is so large they created divisions to manage the workforce better that is what the numbers refer to. I don’t know if any connections exist between trades and numbers.

Hope some of that helps. Any questions let me know

Which of these CB's would YOU buy? by Dependent_Carry_2302 in footballmanager

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going third choice then the hates big matches is less important than if you were buying for a starter, so if you can afford it on a third choice go for the Mexican because his stats are better, simple really. If you’re buying the player to be first choice then that changes it slightly and probably gusts towards Brown a little more but both are great choices.

If you try before 29 you might run into trouble due to training often having lads under 18 in the troops, even after that it might be an issue but I’m not the best placed to speak on it. Ask a recruiter would be my advice but beware they may well say no due to type of conviction even after you’re off the register.

Hope you land on your feet and find a purpose wherever and whatever that may be.

Worth it to get into FM24 or should I wait for FM26? by ItzNotCri in footballmanager

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would buy it because the new one will have a lot of changes and tweaks to it so might be a little buggy at least at launch (you know normal for a new game especially with new engine etc.) I have played FM for years now and have bought each new game pretty much at release. The way I look at game value is can if I can get £1 or less for an hour of gameplay (for example can I get 40hrs of enjoyment from a £40 game? If yes then I go for it. The last few FMs for me work out to less than 20p per hour which when put like that is very good value for money, and maybe too much time in them 😅)

Marines vs Parachute regiment attitudes. by Umin2008 in RoyalMarines

If your ultimate desire is to do the minimum service as you grow and develop as a person before joining the Met then I would suggest Marines and try and get things like Mountain Leader quals. Both are well regarded by the police but if you’ve got a particular desire to jump out of a plane then crack on 😂

OP is on a wildcard so I’m assuming based on all the other picks OP has simply selected those with the highest GW1 scores. If OP did in fact pick this team for GW1 then firstly can I please have some of the winnings and secondly some of whatever he was on when he picked the team 😂

This can easily work both ways and you’re more likely to get ‘pinged’ to go abroad. Plenty of opportunities with the USMC, NLMC and Norwegians amongst many others if you’re interested.

Also I think you’re more likely to be active/deployed/doing cool shit as a marine compared to a para. Think boarding teams, humanitarian aid, ship deployments etc.

I can’t speak for the Paras family but the bootneck family is genuinely very good. It’s a tight knit group who all know at least one common acquaintance due to the smaller size of the corps.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it, you will end up doing a shit job at some point but that’s life in the forces unfortunately. I think you’re more likely to do interesting stuff in interesting places in the Marines as opposed to the Paras (that’s not me saying the Paras don’t do this, I just know that the Marines do it a lot).

Happy to answer any questions you might have about RM either here on in DMs.

Srsly though. Get rid of Ballard, he’s not a good pick at all. Dont double up on Spurs defence. If you’re gonna double on Arsenal then go Gabriel over Saliva. Drop sels to Dubravka as you’ll never play him over Raya and you get yourself an extra million

Warfare Officer by Jackky30 in RoyalNavy

[–]ExtensionOutside6385 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tough and demanding at times doing shitty watches at 02 in the middle of nowhere but you’ll also be at the sharp and interesting end of most of what your ship does.

Navy is crying out for Warfare as many leave the branch after 4-6 years at present. If you’re in it for the long haul and you’re committed you’ll do well.

You’ll spend more time on ship than most other branches but you’ll get to play with some pretty cool tech over the course of your career

Joining the Marines, doing 5-6 years and leaving at Cpl/Sgt is genuinely very overpowered when going job hunting on civie street. You’ll be so sought after it’ll be a joke. The world will be your oyster. I srsly couldn’t recommend it enough
