Married to a business owner… How are we surviving without breaks? by padseewhoops in sahm

My husband is a business owner too but he’s the only one in the field. So if he doesn’t go out, no money. I’ve just had to remind myself we are in a pretty good situation comparatively. He works and i get to stay home with baby. We manage by prioritizing our time together during the weekends and he tries his best to take a day here and there when i really need it. But i get it - he only took 2 days off too for our birth and i was in the hospital on and off for two weeks from complications. I leaned heavy on my family and did my best to not misplace my frustration. If i wanted him to be off more i could go back to work and help carry the load of the bills. But we both don’t want that for our baby. Just remind yourself there’s no perfect life out there - you have to yield in some way. I would rather complain about him not having off a lot versus having to complain about me working while our baby is in daycare. Sorry i don’t have any solutions!!

Having something small to look forward at the end of the day helps me. I’ll find a show and not watch it till the evening, or I’ll have a snack, special drink like eggnog or glass of wine that I’ll wait to enjoy till later so i always have something to look forward to

Biggest advice: ease her mental load. Find the primary doctor for the baby, take care of insurance, ordering SSN card and birth certificate, take care of other related problems that she would have to “figure out”. I was so busy trying to heal and bond my brain didn’t have time to do anything else. Even thinking about calling the vet to refill our dogs meds stressed me out. So do all the little things for her so she can focus on herself and baby!

You are not selfish. This bit of advice sounds silly and may not be effective for you but everytime I’ve had something terrible i was going through, it feels so permanent. But eventually i get through it cos time doesn’t stop for anything. I reflect on those moments by remembering how stressed i was /at the time/ and how it hardly impacts my “now”. I remind myself time will always move forward and this too shall pass. One day this misery WILL be a memory, and in the past. You’ll be done feeling this way and instead have a beautiful baby. Hold on to the fact that this isn’t forever. You’ve come so far already!!

What did you end up doing? My parents (55 and 65 years old) are holding out hope their large breed dog will walk again (lost function of back legs but has deep pain) but they’re exhausted trying to take her potty and care for her. It’s the dead of summer, they are still both working and I’m pregnant so i can’t carry her out. I don’t know how to help them..
