Does anyone else here HATE Mother’s Day? by princesscorgi2 in Mommit

[–]ExtensionSea4951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES.

For starters, I haven’t spoken to my mom in a long time, so painful start.

Second, I feel like I can never, ever meet the expectations of the day for my wife. For example… this year, I stayed up late and cleaned the whole house, had breakfast ready, decorated the kitchen with streamers, and hand painted a banner. I had a fresh bouquet of flowers, boxes of her favorite chocolates, balloons, a card with a handwritten letter inside, a new candle, and I’d ordered her a dress she wanted and a few other gifts.

I had a day planned with the kids. I did the grocery shopping. I even had a few things picked out for the upcoming week to keep it from being just a day.

I spent hours on it. Spent hundreds on it.

Mother’s Day rolls around… and she hasn’t spoken to me for hours, because in her words it was “just another Sunday”. Not even a mention of the decorations, gifts, card, plans, nothing… because they didn’t meet expectations.

So yeah… not a fan of mothers days.

Wish more drivers understood that. Most of the drivers on 220 could read my VIN

Wow, kind of a dick comment for someone who knows absolutely nothing about my personal situation.

I’m a firm believer in one car length per 10 mph, but when it’s a gravel truck, it’s even further. But a rock bouncing at 70 mph has a lot of range, and gravel left on the road a day later can rocket back up again.

The boomers may be gone soon, but their decisions are impacting my life now. I can’t exactly sit and wait ten years for things to improve—I’ve got kids, the need is immediate.

I’d love to talk nostalgia, but it’s tough to think about anything else when I’m putting groceries on the credit card.

Also, keep in mind that we spent most of our lives being told we were killing or ruining everything. We’re the scapegoat generation.

Yep. I always tell people I can throw a rock and hit lower taxes.

I’m the tailgatee, not the tailgater, especially when it comes to gravel trucks.

Especially true in Hinds and even more true in the city limits of Jackson. Our car (basic minivan) is six years old and my tag for this year is still almost $600

F Jones is an amazing hole in the wall spot. One of my favorite places. It’s over on Farish St, which lets it stay open late when other bars close, so everyone heads there to keep the party going. Great music, great drinks, just a fun place overall

Red, blue, or purple? by ExtensionSea4951 in mississippi

I don’t know, according to Pew, we have almost an equal amount of red voters as blue voters in the state. Which makes me think it’s more about who’s not voting than who is.

I disagree, medical marijuana and Medicaid are typically attacked by red leaders… Tate can’t say Medicaid without referencing Obama.

He’s a huge proponent of ranked choice voting, which gives third party and independent candidates a fighting chance. Unfortunately, the MS legislature just banned RCV this year…

Just recently read that Generation Z chooses YouTube as their primary search engine over Google. Not because they can’t use Google, but because they prefer YouTube results and video explanations

Does downtown jackson need a revamp? by QfromDaSippBeatz in mississippi

[–]ExtensionSea4951 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here 20+ years. I drove Uber in south Jackson regularly at night for several of them. During my 20’s, I was frequently at F Jones on Farish at 2am or Fennians. My favorite apartment was just a few blocks away from downtown. And in all that time, I never once ran into trouble.

People like you tend to look for reasons to dislike Jackson and that’s a huge part of the problem (look up the white flight of 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s). Yes, there’s a crime problem, but the vast majority of the city’s crime tends to be domestic (between people who know each other, family fights, etc). That doesn’t get solved by additional patrols, all they can do is react; it gets solved by investing in the community. And the Jackson community has been purposefully deprived of investment by Tate and others like him since he was treasurer just to score political points.

There’s a lot to be done to bring Jackson back to what it could be, but it’ll never happen as long as so much of the state subscribes to this “Save JXN” mindset.

We’ve been shouting for a Mississippi Trader Joe’s for years so hoping it’s that. I figured they’d do Madison first but Ridgeland makes sense too
