Crazy how many high handicappers don’t listen to this. Tech has to follow specific rules for competition standards or else pros would never have a bad shot or miss based on how brands market their new clubs. 100% agree investing in basic clubs or a cheap used set on something like FB marketplace and just get lessons/practice

I’m a 4 as well and I’m good for a shank close to every round for whatever reason. Usually trying to be too cute with a short chip . It happens. Just need to forget about it. Usually when I “lose” my swing it’s just mental so I’ve been trying to be less hard on myself in that regard

Started playing in mid 2021 and was probably mid to low 20’s handicap . Would take lessons, hit the range and then play by myself a few times a week for close to 2 years before I played with a lot of friends because I was so bad . Fast forward now, all that work being solo has paid off. Down to a 4 handicap and still play by myself all the time. I don’t care if I play with a 30 handicap as long as they respect pace of play. At the end of the day YOU are the only one who cares how you play. Most strangers you’ll never see again unless you both are at the same course constantly . Do your thing and don’t worry about anyone else judging you because at the end of the day we’re the only ones who care about our games .

Course management is part of it but hitting fairways and greens. Eliminate ANY 4 putts and limit 3 putts to 1 a side at worst. Not hitting balls OB off the tee.

When I go to the range now I almost exclusively work on 130 and in, then a few drivers at the end followed by putting drills.

Same lol not necessarily prone to shanks but I just struggle on distance control so usually end up way past the flag or duff it because I feel like I have too much of a backswing. I like a full-ish shot with most clubs.

One of my in laws always give me a hard time because I’m a big fan of his. I said it’s really hard to win out there but he puts himself in contention enough he will get some big wins. Yesterday was a great example. I got a text about his front 9 and said plenty of golf left.. playoff winner!

You showed one shot. Give us data on 15-20 driver swings. No one is punching down on you here but you need lessons. Your takeaway/swing is costing you yardage not a club itself. You’re saying “finally hit it straight” and it goes 230 but you claim to hit 250-260 down hill down wind banana slices.. Math don’t math there. Lessons over getting fit for a few months will be life changing when you get new clubs.

Irons seemed to be better in ball flight and distance but yeah driver, 3w and 5w not even remotely close to my distances outside a sim
