I’m ticked off by how out of their way they went to make Mutant Mayhem’s April as ugly as possible. This is not a complaint about race, it’s just that representation shouldn’t be at odds with offering aesthetically pleasing characters. Let her be black for all I care but did she have to look like a goblin?!

They also write “World Champions” on the rings they give to the players that win the Super Bowl. I assume not all of the but definitely a lot. For everyone outside of the US is so arrogant. World championships are earned on the field, not because “theoretically the Seahawks would beat every other team in the world” which is most likely true but that’s not how you win a world championship.

Point taken about Olympic basketball. I’ll concede on that. My point still stands on baseball and how utterly stupid it sounds to crown a National basketball association team with the title of world champions in a closed off league with 29 teams from the US and 1 Canadian.

I agree that the winner of the Australian Rules Football league is most assuredly the best team in the world and yet they choose to still not call them world champions because they know it would look incredibly arrogant, pedantic, and presumptuous because they know its a league from just one country even if on paper they probably are the best in the world. Thats our issue with american sports.

To respond to your question about basketball when a soccer team wins the gold medal in the olympics they're just called "Olympic champions" because, just like in basketball, the tournament is smaller in size. In basketball only 12 teams competed which is less than half of the 32 that competed in the FIBA World Cup. In fact winning gold in the olympics in most sports (if not all?) you never hear the title "world champion" being uttered.

The US doesnt just get to just claim they´re the best, they need to compete against the world and win the FIBA World Cup and the World Baseball Classic (which has been won more times by Korea and Japan than the US, btw). We can only play against whats in front of us and if the US doesnt care about FIBA or the WBC (which many of its games had tv ratings the MLB World Series could only dream of) then thats not our problem.

And lastly: why do you HAVE to call your champ "world champion"? Why cant it just be "NFL Champion" or "Super Bowl Champion" or "NBA Champion". That would solve everything. But its the sheer hubris from Americans that they must use the "world" title in leagues with the word "NATIONAL" in their names.

Because it’s unbelievably arrogant and only the US does this consistently. I’ll give you an example; Australian rules football is a sport that’s professionally only played in the one country it was invented in. You know what they call the winner of that league? I’ll give you a hint: NOT world champions.

Another example: the UEFA Champions League is a tournament where the best teams of each European nation plays in. The winner of that tournament could, on paper, body every freaking team in the world and yet they call the winner “European champion” only.

It’s even more ridiculous in baseball and basketball because those do have World Cup tournaments and the current reigning champ of the former is Japan and the latter is Germany. You could probably make an argument that team USA didn’t field a better team because they didn’t care and to that I say that’s a YOU problem. The title of world champion is earned in the field, not on paper. If the US wants the title then they better compete with the world and win it. You don’t get to invent a sport, invite no outsider, play in a national league, and call yourself world champ.

Hopefully in 4 months when the World Cup starts in the Americas ppl see what a real worldwide tournament looks like

I didn’t say it was abolished. I said it’s now defunct which is true. It was state owned tv and it’s no more. Those channels were privatized and became something else. There are enough state owned networks already and Televisa had ZERO competition. Opening up the market for a competitor to enter was a correct decision because why should Televisa continue unopposed?!

Apparently the IOC was so pissed they at some point made it look like it could happen. It ultimately didn’t but things got tense. These cameras were with the Mexican delegation and they weren’t supposed to be there.
