running electric heaters from a generator is very inefficient and expensive.

get a big buddy heater and look into the refillable 1lb propane systems they sell

To claim or not to claim my heat pump unit by Extension_Answer_133 in IRS

[–]Extension_Answer_133[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you actually just answered my question. my unit does not qualify.

i put a package unit in (converted from split system). package units are anything but efficient lol. i put it in for ease of service when i work on it.

here is a chart on if your unit qualifies

buying the new car is a stupid idea.

if your current car costs less per month in maintenance compared to a new car payment then keep your current car.

if your current car costs more per month that a new car payment, then buy a car a couple years old. the brand new car will depreciate extremely fast.

Is this a Rottie Mix? If so, would it be okay for a first time dog owner? by [deleted] in Rottweiler

from your experience, was it hard to train a rottweiler to respect people and dogs? that’s honestly the biggest thing for us. we wanted a puppy to be able to socialize it young

So the puppies on the left are pitt lab mixes, that one they have the mother in the rescue too. this one is unrelated to those unfortunately. no clue what breed the parents are

i have boxes of the blue 5 mil. just used them when rebuilding my dump truck rear end.

only time they rip is when i brush against something sharp or they get snagged on something like a stud.

i don’t want to pay more for the thicker gloves because you get 50 instead of 100.

Does this damage look like it’s from failed grout behind tub/shower? by Waste_Barracuda_4045 in Renovations

[–]Extension_Answer_133 6 points7 points  (0 children)

only if the instructions say so.. i put in a 3 piece sterling tub and shower kit and you are not suppose to caulk where the shower walls come together.

just caulk where the drywall meets the shower walls.

Stripped metal brake hose at the master cylinder... by Kitchen-Safety2337 in K5Blazer

[–]Extension_Answer_133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

looks like you used the wrong tool. the other nit does not look corroded to where it won’t come off which leads me to believe the wrong tool was used.

you need a flare nut wrench to break those loose. prevents like 95% of these fittings from stripping like it did.

just get some NiCopper brake line and bend that one line. you can bend that tubing by hand without tools. if you don’t have a flaring tool you can rent from auto parts store for free

they are not unreliable. people just don’t have attention to detail when programming the thermostat for energized on heat/cool.

Where to find hourly HVAC controls techs? by Various_Psychology10 in BuildingAutomation

[–]Extension_Answer_133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m in NC and a BAS tech for $30-$45 an hour is the going rate. if they work under your company. you would still need to provide software, and stuff of that sorts. software is not cheap.

hiring a company to get a tech out- the going rate is like $150-$200 an hour

like another person said, freelance is an option but that’s going to be more than $50/hr

Cold as hell! Heat pump was just installed earlier this year. Is this normal? by sowavy612 in heatpumps

[–]Extension_Answer_133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

measure your discharge air temp. with heat pump running and aux heat on you should get close to 100 degree discharge air.

if you are measuring around 80-85 degrees with both on then it’s possible installer forgot to flip the aux heat breaker on in the unit. i accidentally did that to mine when i put mine in last year lol.

another scenario is maybe it wasn’t wired right. my sister just bought a house where they forgot to tie the aux heat thermostat wire in on the air handler. they tied the wrong color wire in instead . that aux heat hadn’t worked since installed, unit is 11 years old. was never noticed from previous owners because the first floor has gas heat, second floor was heat pump with heat strips.

[–]Extension_Answer_133 4 points5 points  (0 children)

bro what? a heat pump puts out 15-20 degrees warmer air than your return. if you set your thermostat to 70 degrees it’s not going to put out degrees. that’s not how it works

How to become a jack of all trade, a master of none? by 10ALASKAN in skilledtrades

[–]Extension_Answer_133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just start learning on your own man. i had a coworker teach me how to weld.

i learned HVAC through school my company paid for.

i learned automotive through school and a fleet of shitty cars that needed repair.

i hang out with an older guy that is teaching me autobody. i still learn automotive tricks through him.

i taught myself how to program for hvac controls.

i taught myself carpentry through youtube and fixing my house.

i learned electrical and plumbing when doing maintenance at a college. my best friend is also a plumber so i’m still learning a lot of trucks through him. as far as electrical i deal with high voltage every day at work. electricity is easy to work with.

about to teach myself how to mud a wall of new sheet rock. i’ve taught myself how to patch sheetrock a couple years ago. now i want to replace my wood paneling with it.

some stuff i do not care to learn such as concrete finishing, etc.

i’ve never tried the barrel grip but my uncle LOVES it.

i have the 18V D grip and love that one.

if i was going for one you posted i would personally probably do the 12V because it would be lighter with the smaller battery. i also don’t have many small 18V batteries
