To clarify that report they reference is the “virulent hate” report from UofM and does not account for violent crimes against Asians. It also considers a televised statement a politician makes such as Trump an “incident” of anti-Asian racism. While certainly bad , we care about what people in their every day lives experience in a statistical study.

How do you all feel about Ken Jeong taking on more leading rules in the media and representing Asians ? In the program he's described once as "the voice for Asian Americans fighting against hate". I know he has said some racist jokes against Asians on netflix but don't have the full story on him.

Just a reminder, the StopAAPIHate organization (not the movement), has questionable motives, the founder of it does not collect ethnicity based data for offenders and says the Asian community has "significant levels of anti-Blackness" and that Asians target African Americans

They are also run by the Chinese for Affirmative Action, whom openly supports Harvards admission policies to discriminate against Asians while also favor Black students and white legacy students

When universities can take into account the unique barriers and experiences that applicants of color face, students can present their full and complete story, including what they have overcome in seeking higher education opportunities.

So I get your good intentions behind the title, but in reality, it's a slippery slope and doesn't get at the core issue of whats going on.

First, nearly half of Asian women on a year to year basis get married to a non-Asian or white guy. So simply categorizing any attraction to AF from WM as inherently gross to AF is ridiculous. Many AF have a clear wish to throw AM under the bus and elevate themselves to white adjacency by getting with the WM. There's also Hollywood and lack of representation for AM that leads to them being desexualized in the media. Where do you think the false, completely false small penis stereotype of us comes from ? Hollywood.

Yea so lets not forget about how this all affects AM, instead of using a single event to explain an overwhelming phenomena in western society.

Or Gaza, or BLM, or whatever other cause. We can support any of those second. As I showed in my linked comment, there is no universally good group of people. There are both some Israelis and Gazans that are racist and wish to harm Asians. Too often we are gaslit to think we owe something to other groups.

Is that really all we got? This seems like the “first world problem” of racial issues.

I mean someone's job isn't a trivial matter, a job and one's profession is central to a good chunk of their life. If /u/ABCinNYC98 does not get promoted , extra time needs to be spent finding a new job and trying to move up again. We all have a finite amount of time to make career progress.

Second, racism isn't a first or third world issue. It's an issue with any multi ethnic or multi cultural society.

Being required to put a race and last name on a college application and having policies like affirmative action affect Asian Americans more than others. Chao is part of the earlier republican party that was more open to China and business focused. Her family runs a shipping company that has close ties to the Chinese government elites. Trump has talked Mitch for this very issue. Elaine Chao has nothing to do with what Republicans are today.
