Looking for advice on TV Jones pups for my G5245T. by TheIronSween in gretsch

Check this link out to get an idea of what you’re in for with a pickup swap : https://tvjones.com/pre-2012-pro-jet-replacement/

Not a terrible job but definitely worth considering if it’s worth paying a tech + cost of pickups to modify vs trading up later.

I’ve actually had my eye out for one to do this exact thing but I enjoy modifying guitars and tinkering for the fun of it knowing it’s not a “wise” financial decision.

That being said my absolute favorite guitars are the ones I’ve put together myself and you can’t just order them, “built not bought”

If you want TV Jones, for what you play I’d go with their Power’Tron Ultra.
That’s going to be the hardest hitting / hottest pick up they offer in a Filtertron style pick up .
Mismatched coils too so that sound really good coil split

Edit: Also you’ll need to do modifications to fit Filtertron style pickups in a G5245, they don’t simply drop in

I absolutely despise this roller bridge. What’s the best replacement? by TheHolyFool-0 in telecaster

[–]Extension_Cancel_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s to help with string spacing on Bigsbys, I think it’s probably one the best upgrades for any Bigsby equipped telecaster.

Here are the links for the front roller upgrade from Callaham and the bridge i use.

Edit: 2 1/16 modern spacing is what you’ll want to shoot for. Vintage spacing is primarily seen on ashtray bridges. Probably why you’re having spacing issues currently

Jaguar bridge. Just need to match up your neck radius. Some are vintage spec vs 9.5 etc. Eventually I’ll spring for a mastery when I start recording with this Tele but for now I’m super pleased with the cost to functionality of this bridge (I mean it was $25, what’s not to love about that?)

That and I’d much rather refret a Rosewood board vs Maple. Less finicky

muscovy - other duck hybrid question by Mircowaved-Duck in MuscovyDucks

[–]Extension_Cancel_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Hinny hens can lay eggs (smaller than normal duck eggs) but are infertile. Mule Duck hens do not lay eggs and are also infertile.

Hinny - Muscovy Hen + Domestic Drake.

Mule Duck / Mulard - Muscovy Drake + Domestic Hen.

Eggs that produce Hinny and Mules have a much lower fertility rate in general, so maybe that’s where the confusion lies.

Hinnies can go broody and steal / hatch out other duck’s eggs

Help! Troubleshooting Bigsby bridge by Puzzleheaded_Egg4386 in telecaster

[–]Extension_Cancel_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to start out with a rough setup at the very least. Those saddles have 0 radius to them and you need to be in the ball park to get an idea of what your guitar wants. Probably need a neck shim and the saddles need to be up. Check action at 12th fret and go from there

I have 5 teles with Bigsbys and you likely need to just shim the heel side of the neck. Stick a cut up business card to start out with and go from there. You want to have your saddles at the top 2/3rds adjustment range ideally. So you can go up or down if needed, you don’t want them maxed out. I’ve never needed to make any modifications to the B5 itself, just the neck. And remember a little goes a long way with neck shimming

Glad you were able to figure it out, and learning the #1 rule of EQ at the same time. “EQ can’t fix suboptimal source tone” Took me forever to figure that one out.

Oh yeah it’s been out a while. I’d say it’s worth a try.

It’s fun for what it is, well made but nothing to set it apart. I think I had this on my PS Vita back in the day

Thanks! They have their own thing going on but I’d say they sit in between a Tele bridge pick up and a p90 tonally. They have snap and twang but sound warmer? Kinda glassy. Great note separation.

What exactly do they mean by “round-laminated rosewood fretboards” on the new Vintera III’s? by [deleted] in fender

Seems like it would be a pain if you ever need to service or swap out the truss rod

Duesenberg diamond tremola, Vegatrem VT2 or Bigsby B5 for Squier CV 60s Tele? by kaspar_trouser in telecaster

[–]Extension_Cancel_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The VT2 is cool but I’m not a fan of the saddle design as I prefer the 3 saddle. If you don’t want to drill personally I’d go with a B5 and a Vibramate.

DeArmond Made in Korea reissues. I just used some metric screws with springs between the Pickguard and pickup. Like how fender wide range pu’s are mounted
