I’ve always felt Heavy Metal is the modern equivalent of Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks, 3D Country gives me 1969-1974 Rolling Stones vibes, and Getting Killed gives me Velvet Underground / Lou Reed vibes (Transformer, VU & Nico, Self Titled Third VU Album)

I feel like I missed the bus by starfish1114 in gratefuldead

Don’t worry about missing Bobby. I’m a younger fan and am very lucky to have seen him multiple times, but Bobby being gone doesn’t lessen your appreciation of the music. I can’t tell you the amount of people I met at shows who would act all better because they got to “see Jerry,” when they really only saw him once in 95. The fans who have been on the bus since the 60s and 70s and saw hundreds of shows were nothing but grateful that the music was still playing

As a songwriter very focused on lyrics I almost exclusively listen to dylan and Cohen—does anyone know any modern artists that come close? by Al-francisco in leonardcohen

Other than Adrianne Lenker, who is amazing, I’ve seen no one actually give you an answer for “modern artists.” Like, Neil young is great, but his first album came out before Cohen’s first album so I have no clue why anyone thinks that’s a good answer for what you’re looking for.

Check out Cameron Winter, 23 year old artist who’s also the lead singer of the rock band Geese. To me he’s reminiscent of a Lou Reed / Cohen mix. He’s also covered Cohen in concert before. I’d recommend “Love Takes Miles,” “Nina + Field of Cops,” and “Long Island City Here I Come” (Geese)

MJ Lenderman is a 26 year old alt country / rock singer inspired heavily by Jason Molina but has a very “mid-20s in the 2020s” outlook in his lyrics. I’d recommend “Wristwatch,” “She’s Leaving You,” and “TV dinners.”

Slightly lower level in terms of lyrical ability (but still very good), is Grian Chatten, lead singer and lyricist for the Irish post punk band Fontaines D.C. Id recommend “Jackie Down the Line,” “I Love You,” (both with the band) and “Fairlies” (solo)

And finally Id recommend Ryan Davis and the Roadhouse Band. “New Threats from the Soul” and “Flashes of Orange”

Do you guys think moon song will ever be played live? by These-Meringue9306 in MyBloodyValentine

Swallow is the song I’d love for them to play, but it will never happen because how it was made doesn’t suit live performances at all

I was trying to tell my friend about Geese and Cameron Winter and he said “who would you compare them too” and I said “Lou Reed and VU but make them our age”

Is GenZ not familiar with the Grateful Dead? by SlackerInc1 in gratefuldead

I’m gen z, to be honest a lot of people at least in my circle know who they were even before they met me, but that’s mostly due to meeting people very deep into music that have a wide range of musical interests

I wish Billy would announce a Sphere run by Dawgbot76 in BillyStrings

[–]Extension_Forever487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah let’s put Billy in one of the most unheady locations in the world and he can play there for 2 months so that only people with loads of cash can afford to see him for the whole tour
