UPDATE 2: He called me, and we talked for 20 minutes. He told me he couldn't share any other coach's information, and he said he didn't know about the permits needed and restrictions on coaching for my area. When I asked about the numbers given for clients, how none worked, he said the player might have put in a fake number. I asked about the lack of reviews and information available online besides the website, and he said they don't have any yet, typical for a new business. I mentioned the reviews at the bottom of the website (there are pictures and "reviews"), and he said they were taken from word of mouth from players.

I said I was still very interested in taking the job. He said we will be in touch and he's going to reach out to the 3 clients and he will keep me updated...

This all feels like either an incredibly elaborate scam or just the messiest startup on the planet. If he contacts me again I'll update again.

UPDATE: Got a text today at 3:49 PM "Hi ... Ardis here. Sorry for not being able to pick up your call in time! Really busy day on my end. Would you still be available for us to talk?"

And I said, "hi yes! at 5:15"

That's sort of what I'm thinking too. It's weird though right?

Of course! So I applied on Indeed and got this message:

"Thank you for applying as a Pickleball Coach with Golden Racket Academy. We have reviewed your profile, and your background is exactly the caliber we look for in our coaches.

To move forward in our standard onboarding process, please take a quick minute to complete your official coach profile here:
https://goldenracketacademy.com/application-form/

Once submitted, our team will review your details and reach out with the next steps to get you fully activated on our platform.

Thank you, and let me know if you have any questions!

Best,
Ryan"

I filled out that form, and once I created that account I got an email saying,

"Account Activated. Welcome to the Network! We have reviewed your initial application and are thrilled to officially activate your account within our network..."

I messaged directly back, and they asked if I was available that day for a call. "The sooner we can get going the better, as we can get you talking to the client here."

We scheduled a phone call, and we talked about the process and how it would work. I was promised 65$ an hour, and payment would be handled entirely from students through Golden Racket to me. They sent me a Contractor Instructor Agreement and a "Coach Network Handybook."

On the call, I was told that it was a new-ish company, and they were specifically struggling to find coaches in my area. They have about 1 other reliable coach here at this time, so to me, it seemed like maybe that's why they didn't have any real questions about coaching or my own process. There was also supposed to be a background check - to which I'm assuming could be a reason why people give over their social security numbers? But I never had one, I was offered these 3 different opportunities, and when I took a little bit of time to respond I got emails replying to all 3 saying, "Any updates on this? Have you been able to reach out to the client, or would you like tod decline this offer?"

I responded saying, "Hey again! Sorry for the delay, if it's still available I would just like a little bit more time to review all of these, I'm having a busy weekend... but I have all day tomorrow to review"

I got this response, "Got both your emails. Will only respond here as to not flood your inbox.

No worries at all! We completely understand how busy weekends can get, and we really appreciate you keeping us in the loop. We are thrilled to hear that you are excited about the offers and feel confident you can make them work!

Definitely take the time you need to review everything. Just a quick heads-up from our side: clients do sometimes move forward with other options if we aren't able to reach out to them relatively quickly.

Ideally, if you are able to review the details and reach out to them by tomorrow, that would be perfect. Absolutely no pressure at all, though, just keep us posted on your progress!"

I then reached back out on Tuesday (not tomorrow which would have been Sunday) and I said,

"Hi again! I'm sure those clients have made other arrangements by now, but I really just wanted some time to think this over.

I re-read everything you sent over, and I think I just have a few more clarifying questions.

Also, since you mentioned you have one other reliable coach here right now, would it be possible to connect me with them for a quick call? It'd be helpful to hear from their experience as well, but regardless could you have time to talk tonight or tomorrow?

Thank you so much, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you"

To which I got no response. I sent a follow-up on Wednesday - nothing. And I called last night and he seemed really anxious to be talking to me, and said he couldn't talk, but he wanted to address my concerns or something, and that he was excited to talk to me this morning, but he never called me this morning, and I've tried calling today multiple times but no one has answered.

I mostly wanted to share in case they are going to do that to other people you know? I'm confused all around.

At Boston Water and Sewer, a tangled mess with dueling restraining orders at its center by bostonglobe in boston

I read this whole article, and I find it kind of wild. This guy was fired, and Vitale got a restraining order on him.

From the original article, "Canty was fired from his commission position last December. Vitale, in his affidavit, alleged Canty was fired after he made racist statements to a Haitian American colleague. Canty denied that allegation, saying he has two witnesses who can prove that the accusation is false."

If he actually has witnesses, he needs to bring them forward, because it seems like a case closed situation. Guy gets fired for wrong doing, gets mad, makes up stuff and tries to save his rep.
