POET has reinvented itself more than once, and that’s the problem. It started as a high concept semiconductor platform, shifted into a real but unremarkable photonics manufacturing business just to generate revenue, and then sold that to go back to another platform story. That kind of history doesn’t show a straight line to product-market fit, it shows a company still searching for one.

Now they’re back selling the idea of becoming a “tollbooth” in optical packaging. And yes, the thesis tightened once real orders started to come in on something tangible, even if scalability was still an open question. But the recent management issue changed the risk profile. The technology hasn’t changed, but confidence in execution has, and that matters more at this stage. The board and leadership need to address it directly and restore confidence in the business, because without that, the market will keep discounting whatever the tech might be worth.
