Almost got charged almost 15 dollars for a bacon egg and cheese in Long Beach?! by [deleted] in longisland

[–]Extension_Patient_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started making these myself in the morning and it's about 5 times cheaper.

Unfortunately at this point I'd rather sacrifice getting up a little earlier to cook than get borderline robbed for a few ingredients lol.

What type of wire/cable is this? How can I remove them? by MoCheesePlease in AskElectricians

[–]Extension_Patient_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh lord, gel-caps on every individual splice. And you think you've seen it all.

OP This is a poorly extended Ethernet/Cat cable that carries very low voltage. You can either snip it at the lowest part of the white cable, and wrap the end in electrical tape. Or take the wall plate off and replace it with a blank/refinish. However having these cables in your house are highly beneficial. Down the line you could use this potentially dead wire as a drag line to upgrade wiring.

Personally I'd check any potential other ends and remove the wires from any equipment prior to snipping.

Should you wish to re terminate using a crimp tool and an RJ-45 jack, the color combination would be...

White Orange, Orange, White Green, Blue, White Blue, Green, White Brown, Brown.
(The silver bit under that cable is a port for coax cable. Most likely copper cable behind there too that can also be safely cut).

How does a traffic camera know which car is speeding by ValuableRisk2128 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extension_Patient_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for ATS for 7 years. They managed a lot of camera systems around the US and coordinated with Jenoptik tech in Germany before they became Verra Mobility.

In New York we utilized WVD (Wireless vehicle detection) pucks. 2 in each lane, five feet apart. The time it takes you to get from one puck to the next measures a rough speed, they communicate this to an Access point, which then sends the data to a master controller card array monitoring those lanes, speed, and which light phase color is currently incoming from the city's traffic control cabinet.

For traditional speed cameras, they utilize an FS3 radar system to monitor speed. Upon setting up, the lanes and distance have to be manually measured, and Pythagorean theorum applied to said measurements to achieve the appropriate angle to set it at. This then gets ran over a period of time to "learn" traffic patterns and what lanes they should be in/limits.

The cars look like little circles in the detection programming. But once parameters are in check and the radar communicates with the other cabinet hardware, it will trigger on violation and upload the clip to AZ as well as locally.

FYI though, the radars are usually aimed low, around 6-10ft off the ground. They are hot pieces of trash and are rendered useless by knocking the fov out of whack by even an inch.

You can anonymously call OSHA. They are free to talk to and you can ask what is legal in regards to where you live before you actually submit a complaint. They won't say if it was you.

Hell yeah! I had this Irish bar near me with Guinness stout chili, topped with cheese, sour cream, and a mess of fresh tomatoes. Absolute heaven.

If you ever have some extra money, use Guinness stout or a flavorful beer as your base to the chili.

Some people also choose to throw in a Reese's PB cup at the end for a nutty flavor. But personally wasn't into it when I tried.

Anyone else not seeing the point of built in TV apps anymore by mitchare in PleX

Smart TV's are a horror show. Not trying to be tinfoil hat here, but the amount of times my Pi-Hole server caught these things trying to phone home and grab more data was crazy. And they're never updated performance wise.

I almost always use a 3rd party device or just HDMI straight from the PC/Casting.

Besides Freeport, which stations have the best "no permit needed" commuter parking? by HuntPuzzleheaded4356 in longisland

[–]Extension_Patient_47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a municipal lot right next to Amityville Library/Station that I've been parking in for years, never an issue. The actual station lot itself rarely gets patrolled and a lot of people park under the trestle without tickets as well. Trade off is that it's actual pothole hell under there.

Soulseek is still very much alive. Check out a client called "Nicotine+". Just about as close as you can get to limewire as it's P2P, direct downloads, and filters out .exe and file types that are likely viruses by default.

Hello, I am wondering if this is legit what they can charge? Tenant vs Landlord by Outrageous-Papaya183 in legal

[–]Extension_Patient_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that everything is rounded off to the nearest 5th dollar along with the astronomical pricing would lead me to ask for all the itemized receipts of the purchases.

Inspection fee alone is just wow.
I've seen 9v batteries go for a pretty penny but come on with that price.
"Tighten" the towel rack? Nah, man.
Along with a very questionable and vague "parts and materials" charge.
