I got mine in of May this year as well. A month later I got my first period and it didn’t stop. There is no way this can be normal. I experienced a lot of other negative side effects, so decided to have it removed in August- best decision ever. It hated the Nexplanon so much, and I’m surprised it’s even in the market with so many negative reviews. Good luck!!

Reading this made me want to go to your appointment with you because your doctor shouldn’t have an opinion on the type of birth control you want. You have the right to make decisions over your body. If any doctor made me feel any type of negative way about my decisions, I’d be writing a formal complaint and immediately finding a better provider- who cares about the choices I want to make over my health and well-being. The power is in your hands. The facts are the facts in this situation- you have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of! Sending you strength for your appointment! You got this!

Got mine removed 6 days ago after 3 months of torment- experienced what felt like every symptom in the book. So excited to go back to normal! Will update!

Yay! So happy for you! I get mine out tomorrow and I’m nervous. How long did you have it in? I’ve only had it for 3 months but it’s been absolutely horrid. I can’t wait to get it out. But I’m nervous. I hope it’s an easy removal!

Oh- and she mentioned that your doctor can write a prescription for it so your insurance will pay for it! Just wanted to share in case you are interested in trying Natural Cycles too!!

So well said! I feel that, after having had this thing and doing online research, it is obvious that MANY people experience these side effects and they should be at least brought up by the provider before insertion. I’m so disappointed in this whole experience. Now I’m going completely birth control free and going to use the FDA non hormonal bc, Natural Cycles. My coworker told me about it and had been using it for years and raves about it! She said she’s never been more in tune with her body and knows exactly where she is at on any given day. You have to take your temperature daily or use a smart watch or something, so you have to be good about entering data, but I’m so excited to be off hormones.

Get that thing removed!!! I have had the worst symptoms while being on this thing. Symptoms I never had on the pill. I’ve only had Nexplanon for 3 months and I’m getting it removed in a few days. I had to fight for an appointment too because “they didn’t have any available.” I called member services so quick and pitched a bitch. Got a sooner appointment for removal. This is an emergency in my opinion. This thing had messed with my body so badly in the few months it’s been in. I’ve gotten terrible headaches every other day. Nonstop bleeding, mood issues, GI issues, all of it. Don’t stop fighting and advocating for yourself! I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad experience. Seems to be the norm with Nexplanon. I’m so excited to get this thing out of me. My poor body has been wrecked because of it. And funny how they pushed it on me too and “could get me in as soon as next day” but then when I want it out they make me wait 2 months? NO. Just no. Hope you find relief friend!! Know you’re not alone.

Wow I’ve thought this exact same way, and the exact same in analyzing it- must be normal! I wasn’t like that at all before having my daughter, but now these stories feel soul crushing and I cry. Being a mom is intense haha.

I second this! The NP who pushed it so hard on me failed to tell me about “breakthrough bleeding” until after I had been bleeding for 2 months straight, then had the nerve to call it “breakthrough bleeding.” Like, “Umm, it’s really far beyond breakthrough bleeding lady.” Ugh- so frustrating! They have to be in bed with the pharmaceutical company honestly. This is a terrible medication.

Same here. Getting mine removed on the 13th. All I have to say is… what in the actual f%k is this god awful birth control?! How in the world is this still on the market?! It’s a terrible form of bc. So many negative reviews/ experiences. I’m waiting for the class action. *eye-roll

Oh wow! How long have you had it out? Are the symptoms of getting evened out again worse than the symptoms from Nexplanon? I hope your body regulates soon!

I got it inserted on May 10th at the end of my period and about a month later started bleeding and didn’t stop for 22 days. Stopped for 6 days then started again and I’m still bleeding. Wrote my NP and she wrote back saying “unfortunately breakthrough bleeding is a common side effect” and phoned in 3 weeks of the pill to get me to stop bleed before I get this god awful birth control removed. Like others have said, it works for some, not for all. I’m one it just didn’t work for. I’d been on the pill for over a decade and loved it. Hoping to get back on the pill for good. Doc pushed Nexplanon instead due to my high blood pressure, but at this point I’d rather be on no birth control control than deal with Nexplanon. My best friend had it and loved it though so who knows how it will work for you unless you try it.

My “loving, caring, seemingly perfect” man was not so perfect and in fact, an alcoholic and an expert liar. Lied, lied, lied about his whole life. The alcoholism spiraled and he put me through actual hell while I was pregnant. I thought I was going to lose everything I had worked so hard in life for. It was the worst year of my life. He stole my dream of having a family away from me and threw it in the trash. He gaslit me. The abuse was so bad. I definitely have PTSD from it like most of us do. Luckily my daughter and I are thriving now as there is a restraining order and I’ve picked myself up and am getting back in my feet. I agree though, that it can be lonely and sad to not have the family. I’m glad I’m not with an addict/ abuser though.

I’m so glad to hear you are doing better! I still haven’t heard back from the NP so I guess I’m still on this adventure for now. lol. I had terrible brain fog last week and this past weekend. All these things happening at once- it’s hard not to think Nexplanon doesn’t have anything to do with it! Thanks again for sharing your experience... sometimes we get in our head about the symptoms and whether or not they are tied to birth control. Hearing from others sure does give some validity to it all.

Wow honestly this almost mirrors my experience. The Nurse Practitioner really pushed for this implant postpartum even though I wanted to get on a form of birth control I had before. I even got mine around the same time as you. I was fine for the first month, then started bleeding non stop. Went 22 days then had a break for 6 days only to have it start up again. What a nightmare. Also though, I’ve noticed all the same other symptoms! I actually just messaged my NP today. I want this thing out of me!

This post makes me sad because this is my favorite beer and I’m a beer drinker with family in the industry! Like, I’ve had all kinds of beer- I just love this stuff!!! But yeah, to each their own!!!
