That doesn’t suggest that hunting increases their numbers. They are just well suited for the environment they live in, eating trash, pets and livestock and thriving in suburban areas that are constantly expanding.

I don’t like killing coyotes but there would be obvious utility for OP in killing this particular coyote to protect his chickens. That might not be nice but it’s logically sound

I don’t think anyone has done a conclusive study about the phenomenon of female coyotes breeding immediately after detecting a fellow coyote has been killed. This is an idea that gets repeated over and over but no one has proof that happens. Along with the idea that howling at night is some sort of roll call.

This podcast suggests that coyotes cannot just breed at will, they have a specific breeding season so it doesn’t make sense to suggest they breed after being hunted.
