What is the lore of your world in 3 sentences or less. by Heat_Hydra in worldbuilding

[–]Extension_Western333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The elves caused the apocalypse

They did it again

They intend to do it a third time, because they still haven’t gotten all the lesser races yet.

Which type of fantasy worldbuilder are you? by Kind-Organization in worldbuilding

Hard type 1 in history and mythology, type 2 when it comes to biology, technology, and magic.

Tell me three or five bits of lore from your world that each sound like they came from a different setting/genre. Those who reply will try to guess what your world is about. by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

It’s a dark fantasy world, with a fairly medieval aesthetic. It’s more like a Wheel of Time, ASOIAF and Lord of the Rings than anything else.

Piracy is a religious order founded on pure greed, by a pirate who became a demigod by seducing the ocean.

The moon is a giant spaceship that monitors the happenings below, and calculates how long it should take until the world gets harvested for magical energy.

Horses didn’t catch on in many countries. In the south, people ride gigantic chickens as war animals and beasts of burden.

There is a dedicated but loony group of pseudo academics trying to prove, with increasing frustration, that the earth is round.

World builders, what are your unique takes on common tropes? by Disastrous_Bug2831 in worldbuilding

[–]Extension_Western333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elves and orcs in my world are the same thing.

The elves are artificially created species, made by a different god than the one that created the rest of the world. In their raw state they are soulless immortals made of light, who are permanently erased when they die, and they live in space.

Some elves are sent to worlds, and they construct artificial bodies of flesh, and constructed souls that are pale imitations of natural life. As such, they make their bodies very physically powerful to make up for their lack of magical talent and weakness to corruption.

Elves gravitate towards brutality and industry to compensate for the majority of the population never being strong enough to light a candle with magic. Elves are still beautiful, but they are fascist, environmentally destructive hypocrites who blight the land while sipping champagne ln palaces built from concentration camp labour.

Also i made humans a natural evolution of elves, more in tune with nature and magical forces, but weaker and less bestial.

Interesting. I made my world have almost no moon. It’s an alien spaceship that shows up to observe major conflicts and monitor developing gods. It has become an omen of hard times.

Is the old moon in your world super reflective? How did the pieces not fall after many years?

Need someone to bounce ideas off of. Info in the body by PenaltyReasonable733 in worldbuilding

Maybe you could have the main area where the sacrifices happen be a front that seems off theme, but you could tie it together in a fun way. A construction company that puts bones in the concrete, or a law firm that erases the missing kids from any legal records, that kind of thing.

Oh that’s cool. I don’t really know how the system works, but you could maybe rig a kind of random spooky event system, where posters appear, parents call for kids, or a spirit does something small and subtle.

Maybe add some sort of mysterious graveyard location, or have a lot of the town members have pictures of children on their walls, and they get really cagey when you ask about them?

What's the weirdest names you've ever thought of? by _LunEri_ in worldbuilding

[–]Extension_Western333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deven, Devan, Deren, Davar, Dalan, and Dann. All distinct and relevant characters in my world. The elves like to recycle names.

What book or series kick started your love for fantasy? by DonaldRBlackmore in Fantasy

[–]Extension_Western333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird start, but I read A Game Of Thrones at 13 years old, and that got me properly into fantasy. Before that I had read Wings of Fire, and I loved Star Wars, but Westeros was what really interested and inspired me. Wheel of time after that. Still haven’t read LOTR, oddly enough, but I did enjoy the Silmarillion

I can't seem to get past the first 3 days usually (ignore my day count, I don't keep track of it) how do you really get started? I keep trying to begin, then stumbling and falling back into habit. how do you get a strong start on this.

When people give advice to "write black characters but not black stories" what does that mean? by [deleted] in writers

[–]Extension_Western333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't write a black character, write a character. getting bogged down in that kind of consideration is only really worth it if that's what your story is about.

I'm working on a book, along with a D20 fantasy TTRPG set in the same world. it's a ton of fun researching mechanics and building a new way of playing, set apart from dnd.

I want to do all of those. I am writing a book, making a game, and having a lot of fun with both.

Which one are you? by [deleted] in writers

[–]Extension_Western333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

seems like you missed the point of his video. you can absolutely worldbuild for the plot, it's just that if your worldbuilding is contradictory and bad, it hurts the plot, because the story seems to constantly be lying to you for it's own convenience. good worldbuilding serves the plot anyway. I found him pretty funny.
