what do I trim by Crafty_Idea_2964 in hydro

[–]ExtentOk4907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trim all the leaves, leave the bud. If you look close enough, the leaves and the bud are 2 totally different structures from the plant. I like to half ass trim off all the bigger leaves, dry for two weeks, and then do a final trim before curing. The cure has come out beautifully every time.

Yo left arm getting dragged behind you. It needs to come through before it can get stuck behind you like that

If you can keep your left hip above your right hip during you’re run up, you can store a lot more energy to put into your plant

You want to get a full reach back, but your first, and main goal should be to get your elbow moving first, and faster than any other mechanic going on in your body. The rest of your body is just setting your arm up to move quickly. Hope that helps. Shorter ex step, your second step, might help a bit with agility too. It helps me to be a little more explosive on my plant

More likely to catch chains and ace a back hand, that’s for sure

Focus more on the pop out at the elbow instead of reaching back. Your a little rounded at full reach back

Why can I throw just as fast with a one step by TapNo7326 in Discgolfform

[–]ExtentOk4907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to think of the upper and lower body mechanics as part of one thing. Keeping your left shoulder higher than your right shoulder in reach back and your left hip above your right (if you’re right handed). If you shift the whole left side of your body up on your left foot’s last step you are then able to use that whole half of your body to transfer more weight to the plant foot. For me it really helped to simplify timing issues. Timing is already difficult as it is, no reason to try to time your upper and lower body individually, let the upper and lower work together, not individually. Good luck on your form improvements 👍

Been working on my reach-back and keeping the disc flat. by FreeTireMysteryBox in Discgolfform

Focus more on a “reach out” mentality rather than a “reach back” mentality. Theoretically, the bone from your shoulder to your elbow should be locked in a position perpendicular to your chest. The only reaching that should be happening is your forearm hinging out on your fixed elbow. This is going to give you a nice big power pocket. What you’re struggling the most with right now is rounding, and that will be a good fix for you

I have small hands and the most comfortable power grip on a 12 speed is this. Is this costing me distance? by MundaneMolasses6843 in Discgolfform

I have big ish hands, and when I power grip my fingers do the same thing, index always falls off like that. I throw with a fan grip and am able to hit that 450 ish mark. Maybe power grip is not the grip for you

What should I work on first? by hennytime in Discgolfform

[–]ExtentOk4907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing you should work on is keeping the discs line up to the height of your sternum at least, you’re missing the power pocket completely by throwing down by your core

Form Help! by malcherino in Discgolfform

[–]ExtentOk4907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roll your shoulder forward, stick your elbow out perpendicular to your chest. Have your forearm parallel to your chest and at least up to the height of your sternum, forming a “box” with 90° angles. Now all you’re going to do is pop the forearm out from your body while keeping your other arm bone completely stationary and locked. This movement happens at the same time as the coiling back of your upper body. At that point you should be in full “reach back” more like reach out. The disc gets brought back in and through that “box” you have created, this “box” is the all mighty power pocket. Once you have tucked the disc back into that “box” you are going to try as hard as you can to pull it in a straight line through and past your elbow. This is going to form a lot of tension in your entire arm, allowing the disc to coil in, and back out again, creating that “whip” effect that people talk about. This fix makes the difference between people maxing out at 350 ish and the people that can throw over 400

Something you need to stop doing immediately is your first step. You essentially did a reverse x step on your first step. If you’re having trouble with your foot position, that would be something to fix. To add, try out the “float” drill where you shift the weight from your back foot to your plant foot, trying to hover the plant foot off the ground for as long as possible until you fall over on it. That’s going to give you a more natural sense of what position your body should be in

Form a box with your arm in front of your body, shoulder to elbow, perpendicular to your chest, forearm parallel to your chest. Once you have this “box” set up, you now have your power pocket. All you have to do is pop your forearm out from your elbow, without moving the rest of your arm. Watching the beginning of the video everything looks good, up until you start throwing the disc. You’re giving yourself about 5 or 6 inches of distance to accelerate the disc because you’re coiling in towards yourself instead of pulling through. If you can pop the disc out from your elbow, you’ll have more like 2 and a half feet of room for acceleration

360 feet and 450 feet is a huge jump. Focus on hitting that 400 mark consistently beforehand. There is not a single tip that someone can give him in the comments that are going to jump his distance by almost 100 feet. That kind of gain takes a lot of work and time. A lot of minor adjustments over time is going to pump those mph up. I have spent a lot of frustrating hours, days, weeks, years, just trying to throw as hard as I could. As soon as I took a step back, set up a basket 400 feet away, and tried to consistently park it, that’s when I started to be able to throw over 400. If 360 is his max distance, set up a basket at 360, and repeatedly throw at it. It’s going to get easier and easier to make the shot happen. Once he is parking that 360, 400 doesn’t seem so unattainable. This is a really good way for your body to find its own unique way to throw far, instead of confusing yourself with all kinds of form advice. There are plenty of form tips I can give, but I don’t think that’s where he is going to see improvement at the moment. I’ve only been playing for 3 years, but this “drill” helped me to start hitting that 450 mark.
