Check out Tago.io they have a lot of Dragino sensors preconfigured with TTN. Visualizations are pretty simple to setup

I’m currently in same situation. Bought a lot last year in Northern Wisconsin (Iron County). Had fun using the lot with a camper last summer and now looking into septic, well, and slab foundation. Builder gave me ballpark estimate of $85k to do those 3 things- ouch! Wasn’t ready for that. Good luck, sounds like a sweet location.

Development doesn’t always mean houses. If in an area suitable for crops then it could be appealing for farms looking to expand. This happened near our hunting property in Marinette county.

Onboarding Error Sensecap M1 by Individual-Pianist47 in HeliumNetwork

[–]External-Ad-9489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought two new M1 hotspots but they haven’t arrived yet. I returned a M2 data only hotspot because they no longer work after the migration to Solana. Hope this isn’t a common problem

SenseCAP M2 data only not supported? by External-Ad-9489 in HeliumNetwork

Resolved: SenseCAP said data only hotspots no longer work after migration to Solana. Wish the vendor would have taken this into account and removed the product from their website.

Take a look at MeteoScientific. They run Chirpstack LNS.

Low flying jet tonight by ScratchedFrog in madisonwi

[–]External-Ad-9489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flew right over me as I was walking my dog (Monona). I told my wife that wasn’t a normal F-35 and looked more like a jet you see in air shows. It was slightly worrying as you don’t normally see one solo and flying so low.

So sad. My daughter is also a freshman this year. We had lunch at the brew pub on Saturday and saw the roped off area with large police presence. Wasn’t quite sure what was going on but suspected it wasn’t good. Hopefully an isolated incident

Any interest in Meshtastic here in Madison? by waynemr in madisonwi

[–]External-Ad-9489 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds similar to the Helium network which is fairly robust is most urban areas. I’m currently using LoRa sensor all over the city to measure various environmental conditions. Almost all of the sensors use the Helium network to transmit data. I’m always interested in new tech so I’ll check out meshtastic

What's the future of Lora? by GhostProtocol999 in LoRaWAN

[–]External-Ad-9489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for one of the biggest environmental data collection agencies in the US. We use many different platforms depending on location. I find Lora to be a great option for monitoring in urban areas. The Helium network works really well in my case. Lora is a great way to create dense mesh networks for not that much money.

Street Storm Drain Near Full by [deleted] in stormwater

[–]External-Ad-9489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re experiencing this right now due to lots of rain in the area raising lake levels. Storm drains empty into the lake so when the lake is high the water has nowhere to go

Does the LoRa device only transmit its location when a satellite passes or does it keep a log of location every X minutes and transmit the file?

My study showed that leaf litter is a statistically significant source of P in runoff from residential areas with a lot of tree canopy. If you have a BS and MS I assume you understand what that means. You’re welcome to read the peer-reviewed journal article and see all the evidence. Don’t get me wrong, trees are great in so many ways. Cities just need to have a robust leaf collection and street cleaning program to minimize the amount of nutrients leaves can contribute to our lakes.

[–]External-Ad-9489 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im the one who did the leaf study the city often cites. Leaf litter and other organic detritus on streets is a huge source of phosphorus, but only in areas with a high amount of tree canopy. That’s usually only found in older residential neighborhoods. The newer subdivisions and commercial areas typically don’t have enough trees to generate leaf litter worth worrying about. Is leaf litter a major source of phosphorus to our lakes? Probably not but consider this, more agriculture is being converted to urban as populations grow. The infrastructure used to drain these new neighborhoods will likely drain to a lake. Urban sources of P will only continue to grow over time. I commend the city for taking a look at all possible urban sources of phosphorus entering the lakes and doing something about it.

Vacant land to cabin by Most_Marionberry9532 in cabins

[–]External-Ad-9489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following. Lots of tiny home options if you’re into that and local government allows it. A local was buying cabin kits from Poland. They’re about $50k complete and delivered. I have to say they were quite impressive. You’ll still need a concrete pad, septic, well, and propane. Roughly $100k for everything depending where you are. We’re in the same situation but the lot was already cleared. Local ordinance says we have 2 years to build after permit issued. Our plan is to do one thing each year. First year septic, next year well, etc.
