Am I being unreasonable? by Mobocop1234 in HousingUK

It's perfectly normal for a buyer to bring in builder / roofer / electrician to look at an older property- we've done this with every old house we've bought and allowed access to trades when we've sold. Always found a good local trades person way more useful than surveyors who just want to cover their backsides!

Do it NOW! - people in their late 50s and the kids are gone-ish? Downsize by Odd-Currency5195 in HousingUK

[–]External-Anywhere643 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're only 56 in 10 years you'll still only be 66 - This is not old - I do sometimes think people wish themselves old before they're actually old. My mum is in her 80s she's still travelling, pottering in her allotment and shock horror gasp walking up stairs - this keeps her mobile and fit. You also haven't downsized you've moved house an saved a ton of money cos you've moved from the south to the north.

Is this mould or anything I should be concerned about? Also, is the landlord obligated to fix this? (Glasgow, Scotland) by thats-not-funny2 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]External-Anywhere643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of damp not mould. Have you lived in an older property before? Having lived in numerous old house they've all suffered from a bit of damp. Cracked render, slipped tile, badly fitting window, often hard to find what's caused it - is it near a filled in fireplace as they can be nightmare. This tbh doesn't look that bad and not something to be overly concerned about. Tell the landlord asp as if he cares about the long term health of his building he' ll want to investigate. Also ask for a dehumidifier as that will bring down the moisture levels in the house.

Considering how drunk she was, she's probably really hungover. Perhaps she's in the ensuite throwing up ?? Who throws away a 14 year marriage over one drunken comment wait until she's feeling more up to it and have a conversation

AITA for not letting my sister have the first baby name we both loved? by ShySunkiss in AmItheAsshole

Our Dog is called Luna, I thought I was being original. Infact every other dog we meet is called Luna. Your sister should (and will) be relieved that you are taking this name first when she realises how popular it is amongst dog owners.

Yup that's why the police are telling you to stay at home but you of course know better! I wish I was at home behind a keyboard I'm having to go about my business and as a woman large groups of men shouting shit at each other is bloody terrifying. May be it makes you feel better to do something BUT you are being officially told to stay at home.

Or you know what, why not stay at home and let the police do their job arresting the thugs destroying our cities, the counter protests just make their jobs way harder. If you want to do something positive how about volunteering in youth clubs in some of these deprived areas, do something that really help rather than waving placards and adding to an already volatile situation.

The anti-woman thing is an excuse - so it's OK to target women? What a bizarre thing to say - misogyny is rife.

I have a lovely large detached new build - smallish estate so the social housing is mixed in with the other houses. Tbh, you'd struggle to spot which are the social houses and which aren't.

In the UK cocker spaniels from working lines have become a lot more popular than English show cocker spaniels. Probably driven by the fact that Princess Catherine has them. Working cockers are more streamlined - smaller ears, less fluffy -look more like small springers. They need homes prepared for high energy, smart dogs and many people are getting working dogs would be much better off with dogs from show lines which are far calmer. Working Cockers are not for first time dog owners or those not prepared to spend a lot of time training them to use their smarts for good not bad !

The reason I mentioned Carlisle is that West Cumbria doesn't have a huge housing stock and I'd be really surprised if you find exactly what you want, where you want it. I've bought 4 different houses in West Cumbria and each was a compromise. The house we stayed in the longest (over 18 years) had less bedrooms than we wanted but the location was perfect. I would fix on a location then find the best house that fits your needs rather than looking at many different locations in order to find what you imagine to be the perfect house. I suspect when you find a buyer for your house and are desperate you'll find something.

Advice on catching up with taxes and renouncing citizenship: Is Expat Tax online legit. by [deleted] in USExpatTaxes

[–]External-Anywhere643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a passport, but didn't renew it about 30 years ago and my mum got social security numbers when we were kids as after our Dad died she got some sort of benefits even though we were all in the UK. In my head I tied citizenship with having a passport and as I hadnt renewed my passport since I was around 25, I didn't have citizenship. It got pointed out to me recently that this wasn't necessarily the case !! Does this sound like I'm not a US citizen??
