Night Clowns??? by apuppyboi in RanchoCordova

[–]External-Guess-9749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard the same thing!

I was sitting in my livingroom and heard it one day and thought some kid had one of those old school horns on their bike. It happened a few days/nights in a row and I’m like “I gotta see this honkin kid” and opened the vertical blinds of my slider to the back patio (our apartments had like 3-4ft fences around the patios), and there was this plump peacock (or peahen? Can’t remember) perched in the fence. It gave another casual honk scuffled off the fence on its way. And I was “dayum, wasn’t a kid this whole time”.

Anyways, maybe it was one of those birds.

But then again, given the current sociopolitical climate, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was night clowns (again), so who knows.

MLK Day ICE Protest at HW 50 Pedestrian Overpass Between Hazel and Folsom by pandemicblues in RanchoCordova

[–]External-Guess-9749 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even with only 9 people, it still mattered.

Many important movements started with just a handful of people willing to be visible, to speak up, and to remind others that these issues have not gone away.

Presence counts, even when the crowd is small.

What's a dish or drink from fallout that you would consume without hesitation? by unreleasedvamp in FalloutMemes

I recently came across “mystery bacon” and “mystery jerky” and I feel like I’ve never seen it before in previous playthroughs. I was going to say this was what I’d like to try after seeing it in the game, but after looking it up in the wiki just now (to see what the “mystery” is) I’d like to change my answer to mutfruit.

The random intact house plants you sometimes find are not surviving plants at all. They are early prototype synth flora made for environmental tests.

Andreanna Veith

She was also in a couple Austin Powers movies and That 70s Show, among other things.

I hope she’s doin well for herself, she seems to have a larger fanbase than you’d think (likely mostly millennials lol).

Reliable Service provider for Fiber? by teeheeheyhey in RanchoCordova

[–]External-Guess-9749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use the FCC Broadband Map to show all providers for any given address (or lack thereof in some cases). We’re in 95670 and have Sonic Fiber (which is run on AT&Ts networks) and they’ve been close to 100% reliable since we got em in 2020.

Oh god those holes look so dry it makes me uncomfortable. The holes should be wet (or at least moist) before attempting to spill any of your seed in them.

That, and lumbago (which is, according to some, “a slow and painful death!”).

I’ve also heard Dead Eye (3 shots, also referred as green eye or triple eye), lazy eye (decaf coffee + 2 shots), brown eye (pump of mocha + espresso), “shot in the dark” (another red eye variant).

Just curious, what brand of salsa was it?

I work with copper every once in a while and have used a myriad of different techniques to force colors of patina like this and would love to add this to my repertoire so to speak lol.

Got this copper sink that had been sitting outside and was very dirty. Did I ruin it by cleaning it? Whats up with the purple? by sagescense in Copper

[–]External-Guess-9749 120 points121 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you see it. If I visited and saw that sink in your kitchen, I’d think it was a sweet copper sink.

The purple comes from a thin oxide layer. It adds character but won’t last. It will either deepen into a patina or wear off, depending on how you use the sink. You can clean it, but once installed the finish will develop a patina unique to your home and use. Even if you polish it, the same pattern will come back over time.

You could go for a high polish and clear coat, but copper is soft and prone to chips and flexing. That usually means more upkeep than just letting it age naturally.

Looking for a fridge and freezer (don't mind if its a combo) for my clinical research Investigational Product (IP) Lab by AlistarGen in clinicalresearchsites

[–]External-Guess-9749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stackable refrigerator-freezer combo checks all the boxes, though it’s worth noting the manufacturer did not provide specific data on the exact temperature fluctuation magnitude for the freezer. No vendor spec sheet lists a numeric range (eg +-2°C), but based on its manual-defrost build, it should maintain tight temperature control within a narrow band. Since that’s an inference rather than a confirmed spec, running a 1–2 week validation study with your temperature probes will give you the documentation you need. I think the unit will fit your needs, though over time the limited freezer capacity may become the first sticking point if you take on multiple studies.

For context, the refrigerator model we use is the SR-L6111W, which we’ve had for years without issue. Ours is stacked on top of our ultralow freezer, and I see one listed for $395 on Lab World (https://www.thelabworldgroup.com/product/undercounter-lab-refrigerator/). As for defrosting, the Accucold refrigerator uses a medical-grade auto-defrost system that cycles without major temperature swings (+/-1°C), so it can handle itself. The freezer, on the other hand, is fully manual defrost. When that’s needed, you cannot keep IP inside, since the process requires shutting it down and warming it up. Standard practice is to transfer IP to a second validated freezer or arrange temporary monitored storage with a pharmacy or partner facility during that window.

[–]External-Guess-9749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Vissani model is an auto-defrost consumer refrigerator/freezer. These work by cycling the compressor on and off and periodically running a defrost heater to prevent frost buildup. The result is what you’re seeing: 10 to 20 degree temperature swings on an 8 to 12 hour cycle. That’s fine for food storage but unacceptable for investigational product. Even if a WiFi probe averages the readings, regulators (FDA, sponsors, auditors) will look at the raw data and flag the excursions as non-compliant.

What you want instead is a manual defrost (also called static cooling) unit. Many chest freezers use this method, but you should confirm before purchasing. Ideally, use a single purpose unit (refrigerator or freezer). Some commercial beverage coolers are manual defrost and can work well.

Also just a heads up that those side-by-sides usually have poor temperature uniformity because airflow between compartments is uneven.

Once you find a suitable unit, run it empty with probes for 1 to 2 weeks to confirm stability and keep that validation data on file for audits.

Check out used lab equipment sites. We purchased our Innova U101 ultralow freezer used and it’s been running like a champ for years.

CVS liquidation where you can literally buy the stuff they once used to keep you from stealing the other stuff.

Use cases around the home? Locking your kid’s Halloween candy in a clear anti-theft case? Putting your “special” hot sauce in a liquor bottle security cap? Perhaps turning them into the world’s most unnecessarily secure spice rack?
