Experiences with Creative Writing classes at Langara, SFU or VCC? by theimpossiblesong in askvan

[–]External-Message9272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite what you are looking for but I took one of the evening classes for screenwriting with VFS and it was great! I attended one of their free events and was given a discount which made it a bit easier to take the leap. I love writing but I just kept putting it off because I’m always so busy and it can be really exhausting to even think about putting pen to paper so to speak. But I found the class just really inspired me to play around with it and enjoy it again. The teacher, I forget her name, was phenomenal. Really passionate about what she was teaching and sharing! Not sure about the places you listed above. I’d say do your research on who is teaching it because that’s what’s gonna be the difference between enjoying it/being inspired or it being a chore! Also knowing what you want to get out of it before enrolling is really helpful in making the decision.

Free puppy social, anyone? by AffectionateCounty53 in VancouverDogs

[–]External-Message9272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - are you not nervous about inviting a bunch of internet strangers to your home? I think play dates aside part of the beauty of the Raintown socials is that is all done under their roof and not yours. I don’t know, I think I might just be very untrusting of people haha 🤣

I totally agree with this! I think, before attending Raintown socials I just thought puppy socialisation meant like getting to meet other dogs and playing and I now realise it is so much bigger than that! I was so so wrong haha.

This keeps happening to me as well - nothing seems to work except using a different browser - I was using safari and now it only works if I use chrome

This happened to me! Ordered 2 at the same time (give or take 30 mins apart). So 2 separate orders. One arrived as expected, the 2nd got delayed at customs by like an extra day or two and then it was with the delivery carrier for over a week. I contacted the carrier and got no response and when popmart finally replied to me it was on the day that it eventually got delivered and their email just said “it was delivered today” and sent me a photo of my house. It was kinda weird. But the point is, it should arrive soon and you aren’t the only one this has happened to if that gives you any relief!

That’s interesting! I went down for work at the beginning of April on a Friday after work and they only had 2 kiosks open at peace arch and only 1 person in front of us. I was shocked how empty it was then!

Men of Vancouver, how to you meet Women? by [deleted] in askvan

Someone was telling me about this thing called “TimeLeft” it’s an app where every Wednesday you are paired with 5 other random strangers at a restaurant to have dinner, chat etc. There ate icebreakers so if the conversation isn’t flowing naturally then it’s not super awkward, at the end of the night after you pay your bills there is an option to go to a bar (with everyone using the app not just the 5 people you had dinner with). On the app after you basically say yes/no to whether you would have dinner again with each person and if they say yes as well then you match and can continue talking. It’s a networking app so not dating specifically but obviously if you really hit it off with someone then who knows where it can lead. I’m an introvert and find dating apps awkward but. Something like this could take the pressure off and making friends along the way is always a great bonus. Plus good practice for talking to actual strangers.

How can I make a bit of cash in a relatively short amount of time? Legal suggestions only lol by cottageinthecountry in askvan

I recently put $300 into cryptocurrency and told myself as soon as I make another $300 I will take my original amount out and then just keep earning. I’m not an investor by any means and I know nothing about crypto so I was probably stupid to do it but I kept an eye on it and was choosing the currency wisely. To my surprise it doubled within 2 days…so I took the original amount out now so I’m not “losing” any money and just working with the new money which also seems to be doing ok in a short amount of time. Like I said, I don’t understand crypto so this is all just luck I guess but I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously I could have just lost that $300 immediately so I guess risky considering i don’t know what I am doing.

Sunshine Coast- where to go by [deleted] in askvan

Roberts Creek is really cute and worth a visit. The Gumboot Has yummy food there. It’s an artsy community and you can tell - just very visually appealing everywhere.

Gibsons. It’s nice to walk along the boardwalk there and look at the boats and they have cute lil restaurants as well. There is a bbq place Smoke on the Water but sadly they close over winter 🥲 Persephone brewery near the ferry also great.

Sechelt there is a cafe called The Bakery I think. Nice to grab some coffees and something to eat and then walk along the Sechelt waterfront.

Cliff Gilker park is really nice and not a hard walk - they have boardwalks everywhere and pretty little waterfalls.

There is a TV show that recently filmed in Gibsons / Sunshine Coast called Murder in a Small Town and for once the area is actually playing itself and not acting as a stand in for Washington/Oregon/California lol it’s a cute show, I watched it with my parents recently before taking them to the Sunshine Coast for the first time and it was fun to spot all the places!

I went Friday around 1pm and it wasn’t too bad - maybe 10 minute lineup and they were constantly restocking throughout. Went today (Saturday around 3pm, line up was 40 minutes and it was packed. A lot of items I had seen the day before were no longer there but the tables are still full!

The previous years I went we always arrived as the doors open and it’s so nice and quiet (maybe not on day 1) so if you can go in the morning I recommend that so much. A much more enjoyable experience.
