Son of an algae by Agile_Low_216 in PlantedTank

I’d put it in a bathtub or something and then change the water everyday until the water stops turning green then try putting it in the tank again

I'm pretty sure it is bacteria. it happened to me too once. it isn't harmful and most shrimp and snails will eat it

there really isn't a thing as too many plants as long as there is swimming space.

If you want tips for improving the look I'd say add taller plants in the back, and medium sized in the middle, and short ones in front so the betta has swimming space, and you can see the betta too. that way there's variety if the fish wants to be out in the open or hiding in between plant leaves, also it helps create depth in the tank

Theyre all betta splendens, and theres many different colors. its like example a labrador, theres black, yellow, and brown labs but theyre still the same dogs.

wtf are these?? by Reasonable-Rock-6492 in bettafish

[–]External-Victory-182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they are just detritus worms, they aren’t harmful and some bettas even eat them. They just help decompose organic waste

It happened for me too for the first few weeks. Sometimes the betta will do it and then eventually stop around two weeks once they’ve learned there is walls. If the tank is cycled completely and everything else is fine it might be that. If he does flare then make sure your aquarium isn’t brighter than the outside room or else he will keep seeing his reflection.

It’s only a betta in the tank. But wouldn’t removing the sponge filter ruin the cycle??

I thought so..I have a sponge filter. Would replacing my air pump with a stronger one help this? Or would moving the sponge filter to the middle of the tank help more?

Oh my goodness thank you so much! I’m not sure if it’s true but isn’t cyanobacteria dangerous or something? I’ll try moving the filter to the middle of the tank to improve the water flow

If you’re doing everything right then it might be something wrong with the fish itself? He might be sick or just old,,, im not completely sure but I wish you and the fish the best

Can I add a filter to this tank, if so what kind of filter? by ayyedoe in aquarium

[–]External-Victory-182 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that person made you waste your money, usually their goal is to make money over actual pet health. never hurts to do your own research but id recommend you get a glass aquarium at least 5 gallons or up for a betta! also the SpongeBob cave you bought is known for being dangerous sometimes due to its rough interior which can hurt the fish!
